I don't think some people understand what type of world we live in indeed.
I agree, too many false claims are being made by pseudo intellectuals with online babbles.

"Individuals from the African descendant group show medians of 85% African ancestry, 14% European ancestry, and 1% Native American ancestry (Fig 1B). Most of these individuals group along the first PCA axis separating the African and European reference populations. In contrast to the admixed Spanish and African descendant groups, Western European descendants show extremely low levels of admixture with non-European populations, with a median value of 99.8% European ancestry. Given their relatively low numbers (S2 Fig), as well as their relatively late historical arrival in the continental US, we did not consider Asian descendants further in this study."

"The genetics of African North Americans are complex amalgamations of various West and Central African peoples with modest gene flow from specific European and Amerindian peoples. A comprehensive understanding of African North American biohistory is a prerequisite for accurate interpretations of the ancestral genetics of this population. Too often, genetic interpretations falter with ahistorical reconstructions. The recently reported overrepresentation of Nigerian lineages in African North Americans reflects pronounced limitations in the African genomic database, the artificiality of the colonial maps of Africa, the contributions of multiple African empires and kingdoms into the transatlantic trade in enslaved Africans, and the overrepresentation of Yoruba peoples in the existing limited representation of West Africans in public genomic databases. This Matters Arising paper is in response to Micheletti et al. (2020), published in The American Journal of Human Genetics. See also the response by Micheletti et al. (2020), published in this issue."

Wow, the fukkery on this thread escalated quickly. Damn near turned into a diaspora war.

I don't see any problem with Ryan Coogler expressing pride in his ethnic FBA/ADOS heritage. As much as Ta-reek Nashyt is a grifter, the term FBA is valid. There's a saying that many people should get acquainted with: "You can love the art and hate the artist".
That saying sums up Tariq and FBA, succinctly.

All in all, I don't have a problem with ADOS/FBA/Soulaan (Google Soulaan) distinguishing themselves from other Afro-descended ethnic groups in the USA. To not make ethnic distinctions among black people would be one of the heights of racism and foolishness.

I just wish ADOS/FBA/Soulaan stopped using the word 'tether' as an ethnic slur.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

Ethnic slurs are wrong regardless.
true. those other slurs are generational and their passed down by elders

tethers is largely online only

and is not a blanket slur for a whole group just a specific type of immigrant

i get this, but slurs for us have existed for decades. Akata, Yankees, Jareers, all have existed unchecked.

they can handle tether
How many times have you been called any of these?

Do Africans In Africa Call Black Americans AKATA?

The jareer thing is a Somali thing, some of them think they are cacs and or align with cacs due to some Eurasian heritage. FBA basically does the same. Even Somalia's with less or clearer African ancestry are being called jareer.

the counter argument is two things

1. black americans have a reputation for being violent so most people regardless of race are not just hurling slurs at us. especially at black men

2. id be no one ever been called a tether in real life in any capacity

more people would like the Acronyms terms if there weren’t intimately associated with online grifters, and anti black xenophobes who focus more on their hatred of Africans than their stated goal of getting reparations for descendants of formerly enslaved Americans
