I think he dislikes black women and I can see it in his depictions of them in the show Atlanta. The darker blk women mad…the biracial black chick is wifey. Having grown up with white producers who do this type of shyt, it’s disheartening to see blks with a platform recreate these age-old stereotypes in their own artistry. I have similar issues with Tyler Perry emasculating black men instead of using his power to create epics or better content. But whateves.
As for the shucking and jiving onscreen, I just chalk that up to his classic special snowflake complex. Nearly everybody experiences rejection growing up. But some blks are so on the fringe that they never really fit in and they develop a huge complex against the community overall. The fascinating aspect of this complex is that in some individuals, they end up psychologically transferring their overall resentment of the black community to only one gender within it. So all the jokes that might have been cracked on Donald for his hairline by his fellow black male peers, all the “get this corny mofo” outta here roast sessions somehow get alchemically transformed into primary resentment against black women. Presumably b/c they thought that the women were supposed to save them from themselves. If they could have only gotten a popular or beautiful “It” girl or even a decent chick, dealing with the trauma of being stuffed in the locker would have been more bearable. Allegedly. So all the trauma the Donald Glovers of the world endured gets centralized in black women. I’ve seen similar issues with black women, where they completely ignore all the abuse they endured from other black WOMEN growing up and hyperfocus on the issues they experience with blk guys.
And there’s nothing more profitable than black romantic dysfunction. So of course he would play on that. It creates buzz AND helps him work through the resentment he feels against the black community that didn’t care about the plays he might have written growing up, that he associates primarily with black chicks.
In short, he’s just another talented weirdo who needs therapy. That’s Hollywood in a nutshell. Regardless I wish him well in his endeavors. I’m just not a fan b/c he reminds me of so many others I’ve encountered with similar issues.
