Cause they want to go to a school with great facilities, go against other players who can push them, play for great coaches (insert your Eddie Robinson argument here and I agree he's the goat), go to a school that resembles the real multicultural world.
Instead of bashing these dudes or trying to get them to go all black just be happy they're going to school period and hope they take advantage of it.

I'm not bashing but the fact is that a lot of these "power houses" don't have even facilities as good as some D2 schools. I agree about the coaching points, though.

I don't necessarily buy the whole multicultural argument. And this is from someone who was adamantly against going to a HBCU....because I grew up in a very diverse neighborhood. Now that I look back at it, I really would've experienced the same "diversity" at an HBCU than at the schools I attended. Why? Because although the stats speak diversity, in reality most races are sticking with their own. Whites stick with whites, blacks stick with blacks, Indians with Indians, and Asians with Asians(which in my opinion are the most shut off group because a lot of them are only speak their own language). But I'm just speaking from my experiences...

I'm no football expert but I do think it would be very difficult and definitely take some time for HBCU's to develop top notch programs. Basketball on the other hand...I believe there aren't many excuses for why we aren't doing better.

One thing we also forgot is that these boosters at these big football factory schools don't play. They won't play fair if the top black athletes started going to HBCUs. That new car and cash that gets slid to family members when big time black prep athletes are considering their schools is no joke.

The saddest part about this to me is that a lot of these racist folks are executives for major companies. Who you think they will hire if it's a black man and white man competing for a job.

That is what people don't realize many of these execs are in 50s and 60s. These white men were 18 when MLK got assassinated. They were :dj2: when it happened and saying he deserved it. They were RAISED to be racists...point blank. That is why it makes it hard for them to hire. I know an older white lady that worked as an HR for some MAJOR oil and gas companies in Houston. She told me with her own mouth that the white execs do not believe in diversity past the entry-level and that their is ceiling in the industry for blacks. She of course has to try to adhere to federal laws regarding diversity making things tougher. She said she could no longer worked in the industry because she was forced to reject MANY talented black people, especially talented black men because of executive cism :bryan:

I like that so many on here have their hearts in the right place (at least on this subject). That said I'm not sure many people understand how college athletics works and what are the driving forces behind it. We've been in the midst of the biggest conference realignment shuffle the ncaa has seen in the past couple of years and people apparently aren't paying attention. The way things are going we could very easily see a split with the "fbs" schools in the next 5-10 years in which the "top" 64-80 schools seperate into their own division and the other 40+ schools drop down the "fcs" level. The gap between the haves and have nots grow every year. Power conference teams will be making $20-$40 million per year depending on tier 3 rights while cusa/mac schools are making roughly $1 million per year. How much do ya'll think the swac/meac make per year? Are ya'll aware just how much less hbcu's have to pay their coaches than even say a La Tech or Texas St? Do hbcu's even have the same amount of scholarships to give? Even if one hbcu in particular rises up what conference are they going to join? The way white people play the reverse racism card do ya'll really think they would let a hbcu rise to their level without pressuring the school to drop the "hb" in "hbcu"? I could ask dozens of questions like these but that's not really my point.

The way the system is set up I do not think it's possible for a hbcu to EVER compete on a level playing field as fbs schools. Tbh a hbcu would have to damn near move mountains to get on par with top fcs schools. Once again I like where some of ya'lls minds are at and I'd rather discuss a solution rather than why hbcus have next to zero shot of reaching the levels some of you want. I just don't think some of you are truly aware of how far ahead fbs schools are. Half of them (or us speaking as a coog) are scared shytless about being left behind. We almost went to a bcs game last year and next year we don't even know what conference we're going to play in. It's the wild west in college athletics right now which would make any big moves any particular hbcu that much more difficult to make happen.

Hypothetically, for something like this to happen I don't think a whole conference can make a move up. It would have to be one or two hbcus that are basically selected as the chosen one/ones (and how would this even be accomplished?). All resources would have to be dedicated to building up the programs rather than the typical equal revenue sharing models other conferences have. As I said earlier, the more successful the program got the more pressure they would have to drop the "hb" and become more diverse. I'm sorry but white people would not let a Howard get on Maryland's level and allow them to have the potential recruiting advantage of being a predominantly black school.

Edit: On a side note, as someone who follows recruiting I think it's been years since a big time prospect has even considered a hbcu. Last guy I remember was the qb from FSU that went to the Saints. I think Adrian McPhearson or something close. I want to say he "considered" famu because I think he had family that went there. I literally can't think of one guy since and I know I'd remember something like that because of how rare it is. Of course I am getting older though...

If players really wanna do somethin they should be trying to get into Stanford TAMU Louisville and anywhere else with a brotha at the top. And make it obvious they went there cause of a black coach. Schools would then look at more black HC when they see the possibility of losing out on top black players

This is one of the best post I have seen concerning college football. My cousin was recruited to player LB at A&M about 10 years ago and didn't go because the environment is very redneck like. I'm sure if there was a black coach, he would have went.

Sumlin was hired to combat the overall prejudice environment that has been the history of TAMU. They realized that TOP black athletes would not go to the school because they or their parents have heard horror stories, some exaggerated and some true about TAMU.

If I'm coming up as black football player with talent, I'm playing for Sumlin, Shaw, or Strong. Strong could have taken the Tennessee and possibly the Auburn job if he wanted it.

Shaw said that he is getting calls from 4/5 star guys that he did not send recruiting letters to and want to play or check out Stanford. He describes them as athletes of a caliber that Stanford had a hard time attracting before. :obama:

In all honesty, how could you blame him? Black people from your fathers generation saw SO MUCH shyt that no one our age or younger can ever understand...it's crazy.

I swear, if I grew up back then, I would have been one of the whites walking in Montgomery, Alabama for civil rights equality instead of just some slightly apathetic white dude who doesn't always see the forest through the trees when it comes to racial inequality.

The shyt that went on in this country is so far beyond embarrassing, it's hard to describe.
