Why are you judging the TE position like a WR position? Are you Jimmy Graham? :dahell:

Witten is a great blocker and he has comparable receiving numbers to get into the hall. Maybe not first ballot but still.

You're treating blocking like its negligible when literally TE is one of two eligible receiving positions on offense, along with fullback, designed to block first.

Serious question, what has Witten done to elicit this kind of response? Besides being white of course :heh: He's one of the most stand up guys in all of sports

It's probably coming from ESPN First Take today where Skip said he was a FIRST BALLOT HOF. Now, that I can get on board with saying it's ridiculous.

TEs in the hall:

Mike Ditka
Jackie Smith
Charlie Sanders
Dave Casper
Kellen Winslow
Ozzie Newsome
John Mackey
Kellen Winslow

TEs that should be in one day:

Gronk
Tony Gonzalez
Antonio Gates

If Witten is such a lock, who on that list is he better than?

You can make the argument off consistency, but I happen to disagree. I say he was never a gamebreaking mismatch you had to double so he shouldn't be in the hall. He's Wesley Walls if he started and played healthy his whole career.

And that y/c thing is kinda petty. Marvin Harrison has like the lowest y/c out of any wr inducted in this era but no one's complaining...

Great. So how many TEs are in the hall because of their prolific blocking ability? When is Delanie Walker getting his yellow jacket?

Profootballfocus is the only group that rates and accounts for blocking. The saying "he is a great blocker" is not measurable and lends itself to personal bias.

To get in the hall you need at least good receiving numbers, no doubt. Witten has them. Your argument is not the numbers but rather big play ability :why: for a position made for blocking first and foremost.

Why do pro bowl votes ever come up in the discussion of great athletes. It's based on fan acknowledgment, not actual merit.

All star voting should NEVER matter in these conversations.

its a only a third fan vote, the majority of the vote comes from coaches and players

Name me a player with double digit pro bowls thats not in the hall

Sure, but I don't get your point.
Tons of things in football cannot be easily quantified.

olinemen are rated bad or good, solely by their blocking.
