No risk, no reward. I would take the contract as you said there's no room to move up at your present job. Plus, opportunities sometimes come in different packages.

People kill me with the "I don't know how to get health insurance on my own." But you know to buy every gotdamn thing else. All you have to do is go online to different healthcare providers and shop the plans. Do the numbers like you would if you were buying a pair of red bottoms or a purse. Compare the pricing, compare the coverage and make the best choice. And it's not even as expensive as you would think.

Yes, it will be more than what you pay now because you're footing the bill by yourself. But woman up, and pay some extra on your dentist bill, so you can get a better paycheck and better exposure. Plus, with an extra $8000, you'll be fine with healthcare costs.

Hey, I've done several contracts and if you do good work, they hire you. And it's only 4-6 months? There's people doing much longer contracts than that.

I would take the contract. Because if you don't, I bet it will be a long time before the next chance comes. And you'll be sitting at the same job making the same money with the same credentials.

Peace

Thanks for the words of encouragement...I took the job and they are giving me 18K more...that's exactly why I felt comfortable bc I can pay for my healthcare, ROTH contributions, AND have money to pad my bank account.

Congrats. They must've been really low balling you to increase pay by 10K without blinking.

Let me borrow $20 tho. :feedme:

EXXXXACCCCCTLY! That's what I said! For them to offer me 10K more then they originally offered, gives me confidence that the company really wants me. I:cheers:

Congrats. So...you need a secretary now:mjcry:

Or at least a male masseuse for when that work has you all knotted up?:shaq:

I have a male masseuse and he's irreplaceable...

I need a secretary to make my Mary Kay calls, you available? Do you accept community service hours as payment?

How about a scalp masseuse. A little olive oil and 20 minutes and I can take away even and ice cream headache.

I got my degree in Duckberg.

I love scalp massages! Do you accept other people's food stamp cards as payment for services rendered?

Only way to truly negotiate is to be ready to walk out the door.

Tell them you got a better offer and you can't walk away from the money.

Won't work iess you are truly prepared to walk out.

If not you're negotiating from a soft position and they'll probably tell you no :manny:

For me, that's what worked...I formally declined the offer Saturday...by today, the director was calling me telling me they had a new deal on the table. They made it worth my while. To have the leverage to do that though, a company really, really has to want you.
