Love
if that's the case, vanilla ice would be one of the g.o.a.t's. how many rap artists have gone diamond?

Vanilla Ice's single is a pop single

MC Hammer's single was a pop single

Eminem "Real Slim Shady" is a pop single, etc.

"In Da Club" is a pop single

This is why I would like to see Max Martin work with a rapper on these type of tracks

Clue : It's the lady that says Art Barr at the end of all her posts.

Two replies and no responses from me.
Yeah, I emotionally scarred you some time ago.
I really don't give a fukk about your feelings.
Then, or now....nobody does.
Shame I have to be the one to give you the facts all the time.

Fact: Nobody does or will give one iota of a fukk about you.
Now, get mad and show more emotion.
Nobody cares about your temper tantrums online.

smh at people downplaying this guy just because it's popular.

You gotta remember some of the most talented musical people on the planet are in the record industry, maybe not the business end, but the singer, musician, writer and artists working there in front of the camera or behind the scenes are. That's why they're working there. The mass majority of them have more talent than than those small unsigned acts only a select few know about. Those who are in charge of this personnel have seen some greats walk through those doors, they know how to spot talent much more than the average person does. They've been in studio sessions with them too, unlike those of us on the outside.

Max Martin is one of those geniuses that they recognize.

The highest ranked country song is number 28 it has been out for over a year... and it has scratching... DJ scratching on it... they actually scratch on it before he starts singing... and its considered his 'lightest' single yet...

now... i aint mad at it... just saying if you got one song in the top 40s, features straight dj scratches, first line of lyrics are 'you're on your couch blowing up my phone','take the boom box out' has a a nearly 1 minute segment with a drum break and him singing over dj scratches, the video features prominently a black dude playing funk guitar rhythm sections... and is facing negative light in the country music genre for being purposefully designed to cross over... well then goes to show there is a specific sound to pop... cause that is a pop record not a country record

I agree that it's really an R&B song with a country tinge but it still doesn't reflect any real genre known as "pop". R&B influenced Country music isn't new. I agree the song is "pop" in the sense it's an attempt to appeal to the masses but so were these

.....Tom Petty did say this about modern "Country"

Your definition is if it becomes popular then its pop music? That doesn't make any sense.

Whitney houston in the 1980's was further away from hardcore Soul/R&B/Blues than Amy Winehouse and Adele are but she was still R&B......just happened to be slick R&B that was also Pop

In 1989, Houston formed The Whitney Houston Foundation For Children, a non-profit organization that has raised funds for the needs of children around the world. The organization cares for homelessness, children with cancer or AIDS, and other issues of self-empowerment.[78] With the success of her first two albums, Houston was undoubtedly an international crossover superstar, the most prominent since Michael Jackson, appealing to all demographics. However, some black critics believed she was "selling out".[6] They felt her singing on record lacked the soul that was present during her live concerts.[30]

At the 1989 Soul Train Music Awards, when Houston's name was called out for a nomination, a few in the audience jeered.[79][80] Houston defended herself against the criticism, stating, "If you're gonna have a long career, there's a certain way to do it, and I did it that way. I'm not ashamed of it."[30] Houston took a more urban direction with her third studio album, I'm Your Baby Tonight, released in November 1990. She produced and chose producers for this album and as a result, it featured production and collaborations with L.A. Reid and Babyface, Luther Vandross, and Stevie Wonder. The album showed Houston's versatility on a new batch of tough rhythmic grooves, soulful ballads and up-tempo dance tracks. Reviews were mixed. Rolling Stone felt it was her "best and most integrated album".[81] while Entertainment Weekly, at the time thought Houston's shift towards an urban direction was "superficial".[82]

Max Martin is an actual, legitimate hit maker. :wow:

But half these dudes be hyping up rappers with ghost writers for being hit makers. I'm dead. :mjlol:

If musical styles were people, Jazz would be a black society. Hiphop is a black society. Rock (original) is a black society. Country is a black society. Techno is a black society.

Pop music is white people.

  • What do white people in power do?

Steal original concepts from the black culture through collaboration, and pass it off as their original concept,

Then label it/themselves as equal to the black,

then dilute and weaken the original black culture while continuing to feed off,

and eventually label themselves as superior.

  • What does pop music at the top of the charts do? :russ:

Nice try with your attempt to uphold lowest common denominator music.

LOL at equating pop to "having a diverse taste in music." People who listen to pop heavy have the least diverse music tastes period.

This post is very true tbh.
