It really depends on your job. If you work for a company where there is career advancement, then he/she/they are telling your to think long term and not paycheck to paycheck. They want you to grow and not stay stagnant. Now if its some regular lower class or lower middle class gig with no or bullshyt benefits with little to no career advancement opportunities then fukk em.

i work retail myself and i understand why they say that. it's not about teamwork or being all buddy buddy with the coworkers. i think it's more about doing your part within the company. at any company not just retail. i got employees that just do the bare minimum to get by. some do less than that. the one that do less and just earn a check, company gonna be like they a damn waste of time and space and move on to the next person they can hire. you ain't gotta do all the work now. don't get me wrong. but make it look like you doing something and are valuable to the company.

I remember telling them because it came up and i figured that the company would just tell my manager anyways maybe even post it on the intranet. To my surprise they didnt remember when it came around . Didnt take it upon myself to tell anyone...fukk the attention whoring. They asked what I was doing on the weekend during a meeting and i said my girl was taking me out for my birthday. They were like, "why didnt you tell us it was your birthday " By that time it was too late for them to pull any shenanigans but they still bought me a premium cupcakue. I've never understood how people attention whore on their birthdays. Thats hoe shyt.
