In the Silver Lining
I went to
U.S. Copyright Office

registered and submitted my work in pdfs...

Cost 35 bucks for a single application...

Copyrights are automatically created when you create something and put on paper or computer...

But you gotta remember, you can't copyright an idea...only execution of an idea.

I copyright everything because I deal with producers and other writers...

And when talking to them...they can steal your shyt...

Also...

Every script I write...I plan on converting into books and I publish...

When you send in an application is the work the final draft? Did you get a professional to edit it?

What if you decide to edit the work after you already had a work copywrited? How does that work?

Whats your thoughts on epublishing a fictional ebook?

So an LLC is only needed if you are making a business with two or more people?
No. Anytime you want to limit liability from lawsuits or bankruptcy it's a good practice. It isn't foolproof or guaranteed, but it's a good practice. There is also what's called a single-member LLC if you're a one man operation. Another determining factor is taxes. LLCs vs single-member LLC vs S-Corps tax income differently. what are you trying to accomplish brother? Maybe I can provide some insight. However, don't rely on my advice or that of anyone else in this forum. You have Google. Take a day and READ.

You gotta go through the state...

Don't go through legal zoom, it's a waste of money...I didn't go through legal zoom.

Just google your state and type in LLC *insert state here* and click the .gov...

Put in all your info...select the industry you gonna be in...pay...I paid about 150 or some shyt like that. They'll give you a confirmation email...walah you got an LLC...

All that extra shyt...like a fukking correspondent agent...you don't need...

You don't even need a physical location...

You really just want an LLC just to write shyt off as business expenses...:ehh:

Which is aweeeeeeeeesomeeee :blessed:

You mean this website:

Division of Corporations, State Records and Uniform Commercial Code, NYS Dept. of State

I'm planning on starting a consulting biz and I'll be the main operator, needed to protect myself from liability if for some reason future clients try to jam me up.

I'd like to complete all the paperwork and have things in order sometime next week. I've owned a sole proprietor business but never knew that it takes all these steps to acquire a LLC:francis:

I've been doing the recording studio thing for a while. Music is one of my passions and I needed a steady place to record so I built my own professional recording studio. Never really got into it for any reason outside of having a place to record my own music. Naturally as I networked with different people who have the same interest they started to ask for studio time, which I charge $20 an hour for. Financially it's nothing major (mainly because again, this was really more for me than anything else so I don't push/market it as hard as I could and I'm pretty well off already) but I have seen a few hundred on the months I have a steady schedule filled. I've also branched out and operated as a indie record label for a couple indie artists. (Basically I've recorded, produced, mixed, and mastered everything for the artist "for free" and agree to a cut of the profits). Anyway, all that to ask the question: Should I look into starting an LLC? Am I potentially leaving money on the table, or could I just keep doing everything "under the counter" without claiming anything on my taxes. I pretty much have 0 costs since my studio is in my house and all of the equipment is paid for, so I really wouldn't have anything to write off. How would an LLC benefit me?

I write fast as fukk and just send in the rough draft.

If the story is similar and the characters are similar to the rough draft...it doesn't matter.

What is important about registering a work is proving that you executed the idea first. If you write a story down...you already copyrighted it...

But when you register it...you are proving that you executed the idea.

The most important thing about copyrighting work is proving that you create a lot of shyt...

You are more likely to win your case if you are a prolific creator...

Uh...you should get an LLC.......or some shyt because all it would take is an artist blowing up and you gonna feel a type of way and they gonna feel a type of way...

Right now...you are basically in a partnership with a bunch of artists...there is nothing protecting you or the artist right now...and the courts is gonna divide up the assets as they see fit base on a bunch of he say she say

I would incorporate and make contracts...and all that shyt...

You just go to Electronic Copyright Office (eCO)

If you wanna be a screenwriter...you gotta live in LA, NYC or ATL....only places where Hollywood dreams come true....if you serious about this...you gonna end up in LA regardless

If you not in LA, NYC or ATL

Make your scripts into books and put them shyts on Amazon and market the fukk out of it...get a literary agent...

Make your script into a play and put on a community production...

People you wanna talk to...will be producers and people that know producers...the way you meet producers the easiest is if you work on a TV show as an assistant

Here's a good podcast for you..Screenwriter and author John August
