We're not talking about 85% of the game right now, we're talking about the top 5% all time, which is where he's supposed to be. There have been 3 rappers in modern history to specifically claim "Best Rapper Alive":

Jay did it on The Black Album

And Wayne did it on Carter II

the entire rollout of TPAB was centered around Kendrick taking THAT title. Combined with the Control verse/hype, Kendrick was supposed to prove he was bar for bar the best out. He was supposed to be hungry for that spot like they were. It was supposed to be a whole album of Look Out For Detox/Rigomortus/Cartoon and Cereal-level spazzin out on the mic. Instead he dropped an amazing album that he as an MC was pretty much the worst part of and the people accepted it as "proof" of him being the best RAPPER in the game when he didn't and really made no effort to prove that. The music didn't match the rollout and the hype at all, even in its greatness. I don't blame him for that, I blame the Aftermath/Interscope Machine and nikkas for buying into it. :yeshrug:

I can't take any of this serious if you're saying he's the worst part of the album lol

Rigamortis and Look Out For Detox is rapping for the sake of rapping which folks swear is boring. Let him put 10 of those on any album and nikkas would have a fit. At the end of the day he made a claim and proceeded to drop arguably the best rap album of the generation. Not many can say that.

As a whole and in terms of artistry and technicality, it's his best album.

Now if you just take any given song off of it, and played it in the car or at a house party, nikkas/hoes gon look at you crazy. :hubie:

I think DAMN and GKMC have a lot more of a happy medium when it comes to that.

He's saying the hype after Control should've had every single song on 120% lyricism. Which if Kendrick did he'd be demoted to Royce status for not knowing how to make a song/album. I think this a style preference because all those songs are basically S80 era.

but it wasn't a rap album. He was rapping on it, but he wasn't on no rapper shyt. That's all I'm saying. You can be on some rapper shyt and still make great music. I mentioned more rappity rap songs but he spit harder verses and wrote better songs all over the 3 previous projects.

When I say he was the worst part of TPAB it's like Kanye was the worst part of Dark Twisted Fantasy. The music was excellent. The mixing was excellent. The emceeing was "only" great :manny:

Actually he dropped Control and this was the first album he released after that verse. Which was about 4 or 5 months before the album dropped. Thing is. The album wasn’t even supposed to be about what it was. He made this album because of a conversation he had with Cole on a flight about everything that was goin on such as Mike Brown etc and Cole basically being on the front lines. Protesting, doing performances like “Be Free” etc etc.

Most nikkas I know in real life was super disappointed in it. My wife literally had my youngest son and we was still in the hospital when it dropped and I remember the shyt like it was yesterday bumpin it in the middle of the night while she was sleeping and feeling mad disappointed. Only for a few of my nikkas to call and say the same shyt.
