Hell nah that shyt was wack. I don’t even remember black radio playing that song like that. As far as dance music was concerned Janet was getting more love

Even Lisa Lisa:russ:
Whitney would have like 6 singles per album. It must be a regional thing because she was putting up numbers with popularity down south.

Just because she had crossover appeal doesn’t mean black folks didn’t rock with her. There was just an abundance of great music and artists to choose from.

Imagine having to choose which concert to go to: Whitney, Luther, the DeBarges who were still popular and that’s not even mentioning a-listers like Prince and Mike

shyt was always lame.

Rather than embracing her, folks let their emotions get the best of them.

Anybody remember the last time a non-black artist doing urban music got booed by their own? shyt if anything, they try to boost them up and over exaggerate how good they were.

Folks should have been talking up her accolades tbh. Got to do the same thing back.

Whiteny didn't have no versatility she was all pop, that cornball shyt, cacs wrote for her lmao, like I said, I stated this in the whitney houston thread that shyt was overrated, her music lacked soul, she didn't try to R&B untl it I'm your baby tonight

The Queen of Soul would beg to differ. She cosigned Whitney many times...let's not

Post a soul song from whitney, of her showing any type of soul sensuality

SHE AIN'T fukkING WITH JANET JACKSON LET ALONE ANITA BAKER

When he dropped I'm Your Baby Tonight written by Babyface she was criticized for trying to make a knock of janet song

Whitney Houston don't have nothing like this in her catalog, some shyt that requires finesse, and a soft touch

She had a powerful voice thats it, and they gave her songs that could showcase that, but she lacked soul and emotion in all her music

everytime I hear I sing I think of that bytch from Boomerang riding in on a chariot, its overbearing to a certain point

Revisionist history.

The greatest love of all is the song Randy Watson did in Coming to America. Just depended on your preference. She was mad popular and her first album sold like crazy.

During this era we had Patti, Gladys, and plenty of others putting out hit soundtrack music.

Whitney snatched the crown with Waiting to Exhale though.

And everybody liked pop shyt in the late 80s. Or nikkas gonna act like Mike Jack was on some thug shyt :mjpls:
It ain’t revisionist history at all. Anybody who is old enough remembers when the Soul Train Awards was a big deal in the community. She got booed. Only other people I remember getting booed was Vanilla Ice and Color Me Bad and what do they all have in common?

Of course we all knew she could sing and she had a couple hits that were popular with us but this song definitely wasn’t one of them. But I will say she got the crown with the Bodyguard soundtrack. Waiting to Exhale is a toss becuz Mary kinda stole the show with Not Gon Cry

You threw a dig at the Voice herself for being versatile and not.

Nope. I explained why she got booed fam, all this extra shyt you’re talking about is irrelevant. Our discussion is done

It's called versatility...Anita could've displayed some
Yeah I think a lot of black people have a problem when it comes to music elitism

As if the more popular an artist is, the less legitimate of an artist they are and then it becomes "cool" to hate

That shyt is stupid and annoying

Whitneys music still gets spins today
