It ain’t revisionist history at all. Anybody who is old enough remembers when the Soul Train Awards was a big deal in the community. She got booed. Only other people I remember getting booed was Vanilla Ice and Color Me Bad and what do they all have in common?

Of course we all knew she could sing and she had a couple hits that were popular with us but this song definitely wasn’t one of them. But I will say she got the crown with the Bodyguard soundtrack. Waiting to Exhale is a toss becuz Mary kinda stole the show with Not Gon Cry
That waiting to exhale soundtrack was flames.
I’m just moreso perturbed by people saying she wasn’t rnb. I mean, she wasn’t Sister Soulja but at this same time period you had people big upping Teena Marie for being soulful

Case in point

Now we're saying that Whitney Houston didnt have integrity huh

i never said Whitney did...

but ole boy said Anita wasnt being diverse causeh she didn't go after those pop dollars

and anybody familiar with Anita knows she is dedicated to her craft......ask Outkast...she has been asked to do many rap collabos and turned them down over the decades

she is particular about her unique sound

and while we at it WHY ARE WE EVEN COMPARING WHTNEY AND ANITA ANYWAY?

THEY ARE IN TWO DIFFRENT LANES...

WHTNEY HAD THE RANGE FOR THE R&B and GOSPEL genres..while ANITA HAD THE TONES FOR THE JAZZ/BLUES genres

THIS IS APPLES AND ORANGES

Whiteny didn't have no versatility she was all pop, that cornball shyt, cacs wrote for her lmao, like I said, I stated this in the whitney houston thread that shyt was overrated, her music lacked soul, she didn't try to R&B untl it I'm your baby tonight
Whitney persisted and thrived through like 3-4 different era's of R&B

shyt was always lame.

Rather than embracing her, folks let their emotions get the best of them.

Anybody remember the last time a non-black artist doing urban music got booed by their own? shyt if anything, they try to boost them up and over exaggerate how good they were.

Folks should have been talking up her accolades tbh. Got to do the same thing back.
Exactly

I feel you but the fact she got booed at the Soul Train Awards should tell you the whole story. That was the only award show we had back then. Whitney’s music was being played on pop and lite music stations. I remember that shyt well becuz I would hear her every single time I was at the doctor or dentist or nurses office at school
