The problem with Whitney was her pop image "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" was pure pop, it's not even a horrible record looking at it from a technical standpoint it's perfect actually but it's for the radio, ice rinks and white women with long butts and leg warmers smh

Same with MC Hammer he got janked on cause he was doing pop music.
Plus as great of a singer whitney was she wasn't an entertainer (singing and dancing). But its also like that when you burst on the scene and folks feel you didn't earn it or your stuff was watered down.
In the end black folks overall liked and respected whitney.

I love pop music too and I play it all the time, but it’s still not a typical genre at most black spots.
