The remaster put this game in the light something terrible as far as gameplay. So many times I've heard, "was it always this janky?"

Put it down a few times after I first bought it. I don’t remember why, but I ended up putting some real hours into it and I ended up loving it. The DLC’s were fire.

I think some people were just too stupid to figure out which sword/potion to use, or the timing. Others seemed to be pissy that it wasn’t dark souls. The rest were just being contrarian. Once you get the skill trees right you are unstoppable. shyt got love, globally for a reason.

it's been a minute, but I didn't have a problem with the combat. I seem to remember it was better on harder difficulties, since it forced you to engage with all the systems

There are videos that make ffxv’s combat look like devil may cry. But when you actually play the game, you can ignore 95% of the mechanics and do just fine. The same applies to the Witcher.

Outside of the Toad Prince fight (which I think is dlc,) I can’t remember being forced to do much
more than dodge/roll, use the bubble shield power to heal and melee with the right sword. And it wasn’t aesthetically pleasing at all animation-wise.

By action-WRPG standards tho, the combat wasn’t that bad. The standard at the time was Skyrim. I thought it was unfair for people to compare the combat with a Japanese game like GOATborne
