Now go away and stop pocket watching brehs from your enclave in Nigeria.
FinanceWhat do you do?
What do you do?I've been home-based with my current job since I started four years ago. Go back to working in an office? Before the lockdown, I could go to the gym during lunch, run an errand or two if I needed to. My manager is cool, if I needed extra time to take care of something and promised to make up the missed time, she was like
as long as the work got done. When my moms was in the hospital a couple years ago, they let me flip my schedule; I would go to the hospital in the morning and stay till 3:00. Get home at 4:00, log on to work till 12:00. It's all about flexibility, which I love.
The only way I would consider going back to an office job, first of all the paper would have to be worth it to give up my current situation, and second of all, the most days in the office I could stomach is two.

and btw- high skilled jobs do get outsourced. This is America. Last year, we had a segment of our IT department (including one of your fellow Naija brehs) replaced by Indians who worked remotely.
Not my field so I'll take your word for it. Just sucked seeing some colleagues I was cool with get thrown to the bushes. One breh was a recent gradAnd that is what the smart companies do, only allow part of your I.T. department to be outsourced if you are going that route. Usually those jobs are "menial" in a sense and not critical to engineering or operations, and if some of them are important enough you better have an American reviewing everything they do. Those are the ones that will be automated the soonest. Managers, I.T. Architects and senior engineers know they do not know shyt but in most cases they are slightly cheaper than homegrown talent who know what they are worth, and will put up with it to get projects completed for the month/year.

It does but if you are good at what you do in I.T. and can prove it, you are good. A lot of companies try to cheap out with H1-B's and spend more money fixing mistakes, re-engineering designs/solutions and recovering from outages. At work out of the 20-30 H1-B's i interacted with in some capacity, only like 4-5 of them were qualified for the position they were in. And usually they would help or do the work of the rest. It is like an accountant having to help people at your same level do their work, and they barely know how to count. Not my field so I'll take your word for it. How do they even make it past the "interview" stage? It does but if you are good at what you do in I.T. and can prove it, you are good. Someone fakes it for them. Usually it is over the phone for in general if it is remote or depending on where the person is. When a bunch get hired it is usually because shyt needs to get done and they have bodies to throw at it. Also it is the setup as well. The H1-B company rarely works with the direct client as well, they are usually subcontracted out by the actual staffer and they do the interview. So after that the U.S. staffing company will vouch for them to the client. Once they get to the job, they send their projects to actual engineers back home that will do the designs and also the implementations. They also clique up at work and find another H1-B or Indian that they trust to help them or outright do their work. And once you are in, people will assume you know what you are doing just because. How do they even make it past the "interview" stage?![]()
