Lost Tapes is definitely a album, it’s just made up of previously unreleased songs by Nas ....an album is defined by length and sometimes cost. Although these songs got dropped I would imagine at initial recording that no expense was spared
Idk where to even start with this bullshyt. GRODT has aged terribly. Nas shyt gets better on each listen, you gotta digest the lyrics.
this!Let's look at his history real quick. Them joints he got with the Neptunes (Popular Thug, Nas's Angels, etc..) were trash. Most people agree that his work with Dr Dre (The Firm era, except Phone Tap) was very lackluster. His work with Timbaland (You owe me, etc...) is lackluster. All his shyt with Swizz has been garbage. His past work with Kanye has been solid, nothing groundbreaking but okay.
Then look at his shyt with Preme, and Large Professor, and Pete Rock, and Havoc, and LES when he is in his bag, etc...marriage made in heaven like 95% of the time.
That hip hop shyt, that traditional sound, that is his sweet spot. His most critically acclaimed albums (Illmatic, Lost Tapes, Stillmatic) got that texture, that hip hop shyt, that's his comfort zone and its obvious. He sounds off when he tries to do what Jayz does. I got Nas ahead of Jayz all time but Jayz is much more versatile musically, he can do a Preme beat dirty, then the next song is him doing a Timbaland beat dirty, then the next song is him doing a Kanye beat dirty, etc... He is like Biggie in a sense, they can make all different kinds of records with all types of tempos and shyt...but someone like Nas, or Rakim, or Gza or somebody, they have a sweet spot, that gritty hip hop shyt, it sounds off when they divert from it a lot of times.
Think of all your favorite Nas joints ever, I bet you none of them shyts are produced by a big commercial producer. Keep my man away from these commercial guys with these big and worldly productions and get him in there with the dudes that we all know we want to hear him with.

This kinda solidified the point @Tactical was making about Nas historically not knowing which songs to leave on the album and which ones not to.Purple was another Stillmatic joint. I think Doo Rags was also for Stillmatic

its considered an album because its arguably better than most of it not all of his other albums.By that logic any Greatest Hits compilation can be considered an album.
Fact is it's not an album. It's basically one of those "Unreleased B-Sides and Rarities" compilation with some new songs like what always get put on those
I swear people only call it an album to try to increase his stats.
For me though you can't release some stuff that was out years prior and call that a new album cause it's not. It was a quick cash-in off the success of Stillmatic.
Fixed that for you bruhThis kinda solidified the point @Tactical was making about Nas historically not knowing which songs to leave on the album and which ones not to.
Like on Stillmatic. There is no excuse for songs like Purple, Doo Rags, and No Idea’s Original to not make the cut over fukkin Braveheart Party, My Country, and Rule
That’s inexcusable
And that’s saying a lot cuz Stillmatic is still a classic album, but that shyt would be better than illmatic if those 6 songs traded places.
Picture a track list like:
1. Stillmatic (The Intro)
2. Ether
3. Got Urself A...
4. Purple
5. You’re Da Man
6. Rewind
7. One Mic
8. 2nd Childhood
9.Nothing Last Forever
10.The Flyest
11. Destroy & Rebuild
12.No Ideas Orginal
13. Doo Rags
14. What Goes Around
Bonus Songs
15. Every Ghetto
16. My Way
That shyt might be the GOAT rap album right there![]()

How old are you?
Damn near every person that ever listened to Get Rich or Die Tryin' regards it has a Hip-Hop classic, damn near top #10-30 Hip-Hop albums in that genre of all time.
If you truly don't like 50 then just know that your opinion is in the minority just like the other hermits on this forum.
I've noticed a correlation to the brehs with nearly 20K+ posts who obviously don't go outside to see sunshine are the most miserable.![]()
Nah this wasnt a top producer issue
Look, you can point to amazing records hes done with top producers and even more in the vault.
Its just a matter of focus and the bigger issue is he had nothing to rap about of substance even on the important records.
Gimme 5 records he's done that are amazing with "Top" producers, and by "Top" I mean these super big commercial dudes that every rapper runs to.
For every 5 you give me I'll give you 15 amazing records he's done with producers who aren't the go-to guy when you need a big radio/club record
Perfect.Fixed that for you bruh![]()
