30 years old.

Was gonna go to University to get my Bachelor's, but I don't have the patience to be struggling for 2 years on student loans. Apartments look costly, I'd have to find a job n shyt. Then when I graduate I won't have any savings, have student loan debt, etc. And it's nice shyt I want like a motorcycle.

The military I figure I can come out with a Bachelor's, debt free, $75k savings, and enough work experience to get an $80k job

How long do you want to stay in the military? And do you want to parlay that into a job with a defense contractor?

Or do you want to get a degree unrelated to the military?

Just trying to figure out what affected you can take

My degree is Construction Management, I want to stay in that field. If defense contractors make bank, I'm in.

I'm thinking 4 years, maybe 6. I feel like 4 will give me solid footing coming out.

Defense contractors make bank especially if you have a TS/SCI clearance which they seem to hand out more to airmen. 6 figures easy.

You any good at math and science? How about chemistry and biology?

Nope, not on that engineering status. Most Construction Management programs go up to Calculus and Physics with maybe some chemistry.

Guessing I'll have to score high as hell on the ASVAB to snatched a career like that.

The military is like school, you ain't just gonna come out of it in a better position, if you go in the Air Force and do 4 years with an AFSC like Security Forces, you gonna get out in the same exact spot you in today. You need to go in with a plan, figure out what AFSC fits the goals you want to accomplish when you get out and make sure you go in with that AFSC on a guaranteed contract. Once you figure out that AFSC and how it maps to your overall life goal you need to pair it to your civilian options and see which plan helps you get where you want to in the most stable way possible. I do not recommend going into the military especially at the age of 30 until you do that analysis. The military is a young man's game...you gonna be bossed around by a 23 year old who been in the military for 5 years but aint ever paid a bill outside a phone bill...is that a muhfukka you really wanna be bossed around by?

30 year olds are Technical and Master Sergeants...you gonna go in as an Airman First Class and be the old nikka in boot camp, tech school, and when you go operational. I was in Signals Intelligence...1N4...think it through cuz once you in, YOU ARE IN!

EDIT: I was the old nikka in boot camp and I was 23!

I'm not worried about the younger folks. My Construction Management degree I can take anywhere and there's Construction jobs in the air force.

Yup...the important part is knowing why you're there and knowing it's a means to an end that's why I told him go in with a plan. It's a lot easier having to salute a 22 year old 2nd Lieutenant who is basically a god to you in a military context when you know you in it for a come up.

It's a lot easier to tuck your tail and keep you head down when you have a plan if a young nikka outrank you flex on you and you cant do shyt.

I can technically take any job, it really wouldn't matter as long as I come out with my Bachelor's degree in Construction Management. I'm not like the veterans who be working fast food, I'm in a way different position. Worse case scenario I come out with a savings and gi bill to pay the rest of my way through school. I could still find a Project Manager or Superintendent job.

The only reason I brought up the military is to finish school, everything else is just a bonus.

You sound like you gonna do whatever you want so it is what it is. But you might as well go in with a job that's going to benefit you and help you be on target. You take any job and semi-worst case you hate it, super worst case it's a menial job and they reclass you and you find yourself in a Joint Expeditionary Tasking backfilling an Army job in Iraq or some other place God knows where. I'm just trying to impart some game on you so you can maximize your time there and come out the best...the military is made to screw you over...it sucks every bit of life out of you and spits you out in the end. It's a pimp and hoe relationship and if you don't play it right, it'll play you.

People always like "well the chances of that are slim" but the reality is that IT IS A CHANCE and that should be enough to make anyone think long and hard. I know too many people who went in Air Force Services handing out gym towels on base and ended up having to do awful shyt in Iraq. People going in for college so they take an easy job and a year and a half later they on a gun truck protecting a supply convoy in a foreign country.
