I think it's time we make a definitive coli top 10 MC list

I'm thinking this needs a spin off thread or two though.

I think you've got to find a way to get rappers in groups in there too. If we are gonna do a definitive top ten mc list...then you can't exclude rappers who were in groups...that's way too many talented mcs. The fact that my favorite rapper was excluded from the poll for this reason has nothign to do with it

Maybe you take the top ten from this poll...and make another thread with 5 other contenders?
Keep going until we get all the top dogs.
Then when we know who the top ten are...make a thread with the top ten and only allow people to vote for 9
And so on...then we'd have a definitive top ten ranked coli list
That's a lot of work though
And people would lose interest over time

This is true. But look at what the OP criteria is:

Lyrics, flow, beat selection, consistency, influence, impact, and sales to a certain extent.

We're supposed to gauge these artists by the total package. You're gonna have a hard time making a legitimate argument for Big L and Pun as artists/emcee's over Hov. As a matter of fact you can't.

Pun and L were supreme lyricists, far from top 10 tho.

If people just went by the rules in the OP this debate would be a lot easier

I was only allowed 15 names and Im trying to be as objective as possible. If it was based on my own personal taste Em and Wayne wouldn't be anywhere near the list. But you cant deny their impact on the culture. When you put the whole package together can you really come up with 15 better names?

I knew there would be some spinoff threads from this. I tried my best to come up with a list of 15 solo rappers we could all agree on. Next one we'll add some from 5 from groups to make it more definitive

In the 90s we didn't talk about whether rappers could "write songs".
