To me, Missy elliot, Mc lyte, and queen latifah are like three of the few successful female rappers that never really had to go that route though missy does mention hetero sex in her music. It's very likely Missy and Latifah arent straight though they haven't come out.

I don’t think that is her problem, the execs were moving towards the white/mestizo Latina Hispanic look for female pop/rnb stars during Nivea’s period.
The early 2000 you were seeing less black female acts and white hispanic video vixens as well. The industry just changed and it reflected on who they are pushing forward.
Even the super talent/vocalist black female singers are struggling to keep a roof over their hair. It has nothing to do with sexual appeal.
And she’s cute not every artist has heavy sexual appeal.
White female teenagers have more say in the black genres than they did in the past. Before pop was for white gurls and rnb/hip hop was for black girls. Everything has converged. Execs cater to white or white adjacent teens only.
