:why:Bruh didn’t want to be in a xxl freshman class. Even though fans wanted it and xxl repeatedly reaching out to him. Not saying that everyone who appears on that magazine pops. But it does help wtf was he thinking.

XXL Freshman class was always a joke. They were always late to the party. A lot of those artists were already big before getting on the cover. The ones who weren't as established, the magazine really didn't do much to help establish them. I remember Lupe Fiasco and Plies being part of the 1st class. They had full albums out.

This was them trying to have their own Unsigned Hype with nowhere near the execution or success.

Let's put the Big Sean talk in perspective.
As a musician myself, I'm going to keep it very real:

Big Sean DID have a phenomenal career.

He DID "make it" as a musician.

He's wealthy, slept with starlets, owns a mansion etc.

Dude is an INCREDIBLE SUCCESS STORY.

If we're being honest.

However.
He's just not J. Cole, Kendrick or Drake.
And he NEVER, EVER was going to be.

He didn't have the DRIVE, he's not going to assemble a team of writers and producers to consistently
drop hits like Drake.

He didn't have the VISION, he's not going to put out sprawling, detailed musical works like Kendrick Lamar
or link with the visionaries in his own scene to execute those ideas (Flying Lotus, Kamasai Washington, Thundercat etc.)

He didn't have the CONSISTENCY of a J. Cole, J. Cole was focused on getting better each time, every album, his growth

into who he is NOW as a musician can literally be tracked from album to album.

Better delivery. Better singles. Better mixing/mastering. He consistently improved his product and in my mind J. Cole is without a doubt "most improved".

Saying "oh I could've been one of the greatest of all fukking time and the best in my generation" is fukking pure bullshyt.

He was positioned better than most any other musician (not just rapper) MUSICIAN ON THE ENTIRE PLANET to do so
and bro never did it.

And in 2024 going onward, I think it will literally never happen.

Which is fine because again, he is very, very successful.

Nah breh never had anything special about him. He was nice and checks a lot of boxes but breh just has no charisma or star power honestly.

He's like Detroit's Wale if we being honest :manny:
This is exactly how I feel. He's cool, dope at times, but I never saw him as a mega star, or having megastar potential.

When I think of Sean, my mind immediately goes to his features, because he did so many and he was on songs with high-profile artists ("As Long as You Love Me," "Right There"). He's someone you get for a cool verse and honestly, he's the best at it. His voice just blends into the track seamlessly.

But he doesn't really have songs or verses that stand out to me. Dark Sky Paradise is the album where it seemed like he was about to elevate, but is it better than Drake, Kendrick, or Cole's best work? I can't really think of any moments where Sean rapped and I believed he was on the same level as those guys. If this was WWE, Sean would be upper midcard. Multiple IC title runs, but he didn't have what it took to be world champion.

Also, what songs did Sean write on Graduation? Everyone says that, but no one's ever given receipts.

Im trying to figure out why the hell yall being so nice and diplomatic about this:gucci:?

There was a thread just a week ago saying we could delete Fabolous whole career from existence, and how he wasnt shyt basically.

Meanwhile Fab is better than J Cole,Drake and definitely Big Sean. If we dismissing legends like Fab,ill be damned if I let yall soft shoe around the fact Big Sean was wack and his whole career can definitely go straight to the trash,do not pass go or collect 200$. Nah,yall gon call that man wack before the day is over:mjlol:

If you ask most detroit nikkas I bet they got about 15 current detroit rappers they put over Big Sean. I got about 10 easily. At best hes this generations Fabolous. And this generations Fabolous would be more corny, worst voice, more commercial and watered down. And the original Fab couldnt afford to be any worse in those categories. He barely beat the charges to be considered dope.

Label problems he fell off right when he started to pop. Tried to comeback but it was already over.

XV was always dope to me, a shame he mishandled his career

Dude was rapping with kendrick and other legit greats on legitimately great projects

In the 2013 ish era that this probably happened that would've definitely helped XV out. Not every artist makes it but it had much more of a presence back then

I will say there's artists that made XXL, didn't benefit from it but made it anyway without it boosting their status at all, freddie gibbs comes to mind
