I get what he's saying after reading the entire piece. Same thing Neil Degrasse Tyson said. He's not denying racism exists, just doesn't want refer to his skin color in regards to his profession. He wants to be seen for his work first and foremost. I get it is wearisome carrying that load throughout life, and as much as he'd like to have it this way, unfortunately it will never happen.

There are some who benefit, mentally and emotionally, by thinking this way but it often feels like a disservice and slap in the face to others in the community.

Being black in this world is a catch 22

:mjcry:
Yeah it wasn’t nothing negative towards black or white he just doesn’t want to be just known for his race first then his career… which will never happen and I’m sure he’s aware of that. Just what he prefers to think of himself

If there was power, wealth, and prestige associated "blackness" - everyone would claim it with pride

blackness is associated with negativity, failure, and poverty and thats why they run from it.

black musicians have no problem with it being called "black music" because everyone knows black music is running the industry

black music is associated with success.... gold, platinum, and diamond plaques.... its a source of pride.

black film is associated with fukkery, c00nery, and low budgets.
That’s not the same bc we are the originators of the music. It *is* black music. So it’s a way of correcting folk when they try to take ownership

Acting however has no ownership

Also ‘black comedy’ is also illustrious as music yet I gave you the dave chapelle example. Also Kevin hart, Chris rock, etc. Of course they shouldn’t want to be known as ‘black comedians’. It’s dude resort I’m to thr work they put in. But let me guess that would make them c00ns

:usure: I don’t think their experience has been 1:1 with ours. Most are from elsewhere in the diaspora. I’m not gonna assume though, we got some here if they wanna speak on it.

In true modern internet fashion, the headline is a lot worse than what he’s saying/what he means

By putting ‘black’ ahead of a title in certain cases THAT can be the insult and nggas don’t even realize

Denzel Washington said it best in He Got Game, Earl Monroe’s nickname was JESUS, ‘then the white media got a hold of it he couldn’t just be Jesus he had to be BLACK Jesus’

If the Grammys said Beyoncé has the most awards by a black artist, it’d be an insult. She has the most of ANY artist.

If people said Dave chapelle is the best black comedian of all time it’d be an insult. He’s the best comedian period.

If Idris Elba was named James Bond and folk called him the black James bond it’d be an insult: he’s James Bond.

That’s the energy of what he’s saying, but mfers are too small minded, to beholden to a victim mindset, too monolithic , too ‘ants in a jar still won’t get out when the cap is removed’ to view it that way
Yeah that’s what he meant.

Like he’s not just one of the best BLACK actors he’s one of the best any actors… it’s a way to segregate black people in a profession from others and mostly used in a negative way.

sometimes it can be perceived as a deviation/not normal instead of an identifier

think the curse of ham/canaan connotations. they got cursed for doing some devious in racist christian tradition and then that got applied to us. if we do something good, its because we are "not normal". if bad then its expected. its a weird paradigm that wasnt made by us

This seems to be a blindspot or cognitive dissonance for successful Black folk, regardless of national origin. You start hanging out with them, being the special negro and then these cats start talking about race as being limiting. Its pie in the sky bullshyt but alot of our people think that somehow if we just treat race as a mental roadblock, we can overcome it. shyt is weird literally considering hundreds of years of history. Guy is in a country where members of the royal family consider a quadroon baby too dark for them. shyt is tragicomic the mental gymnastics Black folk go through.

Over the years the focus of Black History Month has expanded its coverage to include the history of African, Asian and Caribbean peoples and their contribution to Britain’s ‘island story’.

Cant take Brits, African/caribbean brits seriously when it comes to "blackness" anyways.

nikkas copy and pasted ADOS centered month to UK, that had nothing to do with them:scust: and bad enough they share it with Asians:mjlol:

nikkas been a joke

I was getting ready to post this. This isn't about American vs Foreign Black people.

This is about Black people getting close to cacs and wanting to be in their little group and getting upset that they're not allowed access because of race.

Which is laughable because why would you want to fit in with your racial obstructer? :mjpls:

How low does your self esteem have to be to not want to be what you are?

This is it.

If Blackness was at the top of the ladder globally you wouldn't be able to shut these actors, singers, and celebrities up from saying Black this and Black that.

But they let whites infect them with anti-Blackness so they want to avoid it instead of strengthening and making Black culture more powerful globally.

Too many Black people think it’s their responsibility to eradicate racism.

I won’t call him a c00n, but that “racism is only as powerful as we allow it to be” comment is terribly misguided. :snoop:

Years ago I realized that the "eradicate racism" people shouldn't be taken seriously because they weren't saying it because they wanted Black people to build without interference from others.

"Racism" for them was shorthand for "white people rejecting them so it should be eliminated so they can move into their neighborhoods, marry them, have kids with them, and peacefully coexist with them because they want to erase their Blackness like self hating c00ns." :mjpls:

nikka please.

Ain't you Russian anyway?

You’re a bigger sambo/c00n than Idris. You post like you live in Langley with a white supremacist mindset. And you’re the type of spook they would use as a useful tool in the genocide of millions of black people.

Brainwashed sambos like you have no moral right to critique anyone. Take several seats at the back of the class & shut ya mouth.

Yes, I’m Vlad Povetkin. Fukking c00n.

Exactly

Jews used to run away from their Jewish lineage when they were under persecution... changed their last names and everything

Now jews are associated with power, wealth, and prestige.

Now everything they do is to glorify and defend judaism - because Jews are WINNING.

It is limiting, to everyone.

I think usually thats where they get to. Doesn’t mean people don’t recognize they’re black or what their skin means.

Take Denzel, I’m sure since he’s up in age he probably feels the same way. But notice people don’t really refer to him as just a “black” actor.

Like I said, I believe Mike Jack was on the same type of time afterwhile. They don’t refer to other actors or musicians this way… and they shouldn’t at all.

But the reality of the situation is still there. As long as we’re they most hated minority then there will always be something used to seperate us in lesser categories than our so called peers.

Like I hate the black Hollywood machine… most of our movies and tv shows be all about some gun, crime, drug, or athlete bullshyt and we’re stereotyped for those role. Or some baby momma struggle shyt if they not trying to turn straight black actors into gay people

I had a black Brit tell me that recently, actually. From this site. LOL please believe black Americans are not dictating these terms. We don’t have the luxury of not “focusing on race”.
Oh, but you do tho. Too many mfers inheriting past trauma/others trauma and using it as a crutch

A site of all alleged black men let’s talk about how. Anyone feel free to answer this question:

What racism do YOU personally experience? And I mean literal, exact examples not systemic or symbolic.

And I want to be very clear before nggas lazily :mjpls:; You can be cognizant of your blackness and black issues and have empathy for victims and no shyt racism exists, all that, but at the VERY same time you can realize that racism plays a minimal role in YOUR day to day life. That’s the shyt people are afraid to say bc black folk are monolithic af and if you make $1 or $1 million, you supposed to follow the same code. Which is why we get the Ja Morants of the world
