I get what he's saying after reading the entire piece. Same thing Neil Degrasse Tyson said. He's not denying racism exists, just doesn't want refer to his skin color in regards to his profession. He wants to be seen for his work first and foremost. I get it is wearisome carrying that load throughout life, and as much as he'd like to have it this way, unfortunately it will never happen.
There are some who benefit, mentally and emotionally, by thinking this way but it often feels like a disservice and slap in the face to others in the community.
