If Aaliyah was still here, do you think she would be the best female artist in R&B/Pop right now?

Yeah, I've never seen what all the hype is about her.

These are the only 2 Beyonce songs I can honestly say I like

Notice the Beyoncé stans never post actual tracks to back their stance. Just stuff about stage presence and influence. Is anyone even listening to Lemonade anymore? The hype machine had us think it was a revolutionary album and now it's crickets.

Beyonce' is the definition of overrated.

Bey just has a "team". Her mama and daddy set her up lovely and put her in this unbelievable position of power she in now.

Now, this ain't to say she don't put in work, cause Lord knows she performs her ass off when she gets on the stage but her dance moves and singing have never moved me like that. Beyonce comes off so souless and empty to me. Always has too.

you riding for Aaliyah so hard, I would figure that you took the time out to learn how she got on.

Aaliyah only got a deal because her uncle is barry Hankerson. a powerful guy in the industry, and also the owner of blackground records.

yet you wanna criticize beyonce & her parents, when in reality, we only know matthew & tina Knowles because of beyonce/destinys child.

this post is ass-backwards. if anything, you should be criticizing Aaliyah in your post. shes the plant. not beyonce.:mjlol:

You my nikka, but not even CIARA status?! But Ciara has never even reached Aaaliyah status!

Ciara's music has only been relevant in the last few years due to her relationships with Future and Russell Wilson IMO

Ciara's peak was bigger than Aaliyah's

easily.

Outside Of Brandy and Monica, who who was fukkin with Aaliyah??

BREH that's just the female teen lane!!!!! there were a lot more bigger female singers in the '90s.

the point is, Aaliyah wasn't even on the level of brandy & monica in her SPECIFIC lane.

that's not even counting all the adult female superstars at the time. and there were plenty of em back then.

here we go :snoop:

I was wondering how quick an Aaliyah hater would show up. 3 comments in

True. But it doesn't mean that Aaliyah didn't come right after them and make an impact in real time.

Of course she's bigger now than before - she dropped actual classics. Enough time has passed and people realize her music was innovative as fukk. We thought her shyt was innovative back then but it's really obvious now.

Most innovative artists are never huge in the time period they drop their best shyt. They're not ignored either. But it takes time for people to catch up. "We Need A Resolution" blew me the fukk away when it came out, but from what I read, it pretty much flopped as a single. Now of course it's a staple Aaliyah record and everyone's heard it.

Saying she'd be Monica/Brandy/Mya status is laughable because Aaliyah's music was more ahead of the curve than they were. As they waned in popularity, Aaliyah would've only become more notable because that's how these things work. Nas is arguably more popular now than he's ever been, meanwhile no one really cares what LL Cool J is up to in comparison.

Father Time :wow:

a lot of misinformation & revisionist history in this post.

timbaland & missy do indeed get credit for the innovations on some of those Aaliyah records. they always did. Aaliyah DOESNT get credit because she was basically just a studio puppet, who did nothing but hum missy lyrics over timbaland beats. same way she was just seen as an r.kelly pet project on her first album.

ll cool j is still a bigger name/more relevant than nas in 2017. of course nas is gonna be a favored name amongst your immediate peers and the message board types. hes more modern. but the world is way bigger than that.

the rest of this is just your opinions.
lol @ "we need a resolution".

I don't think she would have been that big. She probably would have carved out a nice career.

People act like Aaliyah didnt have no help. Her uncle was R. Kelly manager and he the one recruited Aaliyah to work with Tim and Missy. He signed Tim and Magoo and Static. Barry put her in the right place at the right time.

She made good music but I don't see her up there with Beyonce. And i'm not a big Beyonce fan. It seem like in thing to do now is hate on Beyonce. But if you look at her career she grinded her way to the top.

what sexscapades?? you think aaliyah got with jay z?? :dead:
thats why he made an album with r kelly. why would jay make an album with a man he shared her with?

youre a weird one.

you should get out more.

There wasn't mixed reviews. Metacritic has it at a 76% which is pretty high considering an 81% is universal acclaim. It takes scores from reviews all across the board and averages them.

Aaliyah doing 400K before she died, means she was averaging 100K per week pre-death considering she died nearly 1 month after the album came out.

Aaliyah album sold liked it did because she passed.

In the wake of her tragic death, Aaliyah's self-titled Blackground/Virgin release shoots 19-1 on The Billboard 200 this week, based on a sales jump from 62,000 to 306,000 units in the U.S., according to SoundScan. The late artist's surge to No. 1 was predicated last week when retailers reported massive sales gains following the Aug. 25 plane crash that took the life of Aaliyah and eight others.

where as this timbaland machine when Aaliyah's last album flopped?

timbaland himself had to go pop to stay afloat.

and who are are these artists that stayed poppin thanks to timbaland's so-called machine? I cant think of any. and don't give me any names like Justin timberlake who sold more records before dealing with timbaland.

in other words, you have nothing to say.:mjlol:

its okay, dust yourself off & try again

The album before future sex sound didn't sell nearly as much as FSS and the biggest song on the previous album was cry me a river which was produced by Tim.

Yes, her dying was a catalyst for her sales sky rocketing the week after, but this was also a new album. Just because an artist dies doesn't mean their going to sell records. The only artists who sell are ones that made a significant impact while alive. Prime example is Big Pun. His posthumous album wasn't a huge deal at all even though it dropped around his death.

And :deadmanny:

That's not even mentioning that Nelly Furtado had a flopped sophomore effort before Tim produced the bulk of the 3rd album, which is her most successful.

If we are going to keep it about Hip Hop and R&B, Tim helped 50 Cent stay afloat with "AYO Technology" and gave Fabolous his biggest hit with "Make Me Better". He also gave Omarion his biggest hot at the time with "Ice Box".

Some heads dont get that selling records in 2001 was different than now.
400k the day before her death with a brand new album is something.....
put it this way, destiny child came out with bootylicious and didnt sell as much the first few weeks, but yet that single is the last time an all girl group reached the top of the billboards.
there was napster and lime wire, yes.. but selling 400k in the first month is something. especially when your fanbase is urban america
