If Aaliyah was still here, do you think she would be the best female artist in R&B/Pop right now?

She sold 400K before she died.

Yes, her dying was a catalyst for her sales sky rocketing the week after, but this was also a new album. Just because an artist dies doesn't mean their going to sell records. The only artists who sell are ones that made a significant impact while alive. Prime example is Big Pun. His posthumous album wasn't a huge deal at all even though it dropped around his death.

Her album probably would have topped a million if she hadn't passed. That's not bad but the label wanted more. They had put alot of money into the project. Her album was selling like they thought it would.

now people are in here tryna rewrite the disappointment of Aaliyah's 3rd album, and pretend that album was considered a success before she died.

LOL!!!!

where does it end?

theyre not even the same type of artist.

beyonce is the biggest entertainer of this century.
meanwhile, Aaliyah wasn't an entertainer at all. she always got horrible reviews for her performances. she was no different of a singer than Total. chit, at least total rocked the Apollo. i cant think of one Aaliyah performance that meant a damn.

beyonce sells out stadiums around the world.
Aaliyah's biggest look was being at like the bottom of the bill on the '97 Budweiser superfest, and had the weakest set hands-down. and that was the peak of her career too.

this whole comparison is stupid. you can tell the narrative is only pushed by kids & casuals for a reason. anybody that was really around knows that destinys child had already lapped Aaliyah before she died. that alone, renders this whole "debate" pointless.

and we're still waiting from that last thread. Aaliyah was in the mainstream for 7 years, and yet her stans couldn't muster up one memorable performance or memorable moment in general. her groupies just kept quiet and let the thread died, like theyre about to do now.

I think a part of Aaliyah `s legacy has been inflated, but man some of y'all nikkas going too far with the disrespect.

Aaliyah`s popularity was growing not declining.

Try again was the first song from an artist to top the charts just off airplay.

The girl was gonna be in the matrix film as well.

Timbo would've gave those songs that became hits for others to Aaliyah like it was originally supposed to be for.

Aaliyah was also more than a studio puppet. She had hit songs with writers and producers outside of Missy, Static, Tim and R. Kelly. Furthermore, you can't really call Asliyah a puppet without saying the same of Beyonce. She's also the product of great writers and producers.

The key differences between Beyonce's music and Aaliyah's is Aaliyah's music translates better on record where Beyonce's translates better on stage. Beyonce has the superior voice, but inferior music. A lot of the songs she picks don't work well with her vocals because she either over sings or picks songs that don't really showcase her abilities. That's where Aaliyah shined. Her songs worked in sync with her voice. Thats always going to win over someone with a great voice and mediocre songs.

disrespectful?

we're just talking music.

weak copout.

It went 2x plat AFTER SHE DIED. people are on the 1st page told you how that album was doing before she died.
The album was gold when she was alive. The album was only out for a MONTH with only one video out. Going off of that alone her album was doing ok.

In Beyonce's first month of release Ashanti was shytting on her sales wise... That next year Beyonce outsold her overall.

Destinys child were opening acts until like 2005. Before that they were opening acts for tlc, christina aguleira, etc.

And she's the youngest african american to perform at the oscars, that performance is legendary and remembered just for that reason alone.
