even as a kid, I knew Aaliyah wasn't gonna have much of a singing career as an adult.
and I knew brandy was gonna struggle musically. she was too popcorn, too much of an annoyance, and not extraordinary talented to make up for it.
you can put immature in the same boat as brandy, thanks mostly to how chris stokes handled the group's image.
And while we're at it, let's just dead this whole notion that Aaliyah wasn't a star and that she only became this superstar AFTER she died. If you want to say she was overrated, that's far more of an accurate assessment than attempting to rewrite history. Aaliyah was the lead actress in a film in which they could've gotten anyone else. If you're not a star, no studio is going to gamble on a brand that can't draw audiences to watch their film. Furthermore, your songs on a soundtrack aren't pushing soundtracks to sell 1.5 to 2 million copies by themselves.
Aaliyah was a star but she was never a superstar when she was alive.
BOTTOM LINE.
Aaliyah was a star on the downside of her music career, who died and became a superstar in death, and then went on to have the most overrated post-death legacy in the history of music and possibly all facets of entertainment.
also, stop acting like she was the big draw for that "romeo must die" movie. like jet li & DMX didn't exist all a sudden.
youre so full of chit.
No I don't mean "Crazy In Love". "'03 Bonnie And Clyde" set the stage for Beyoncé's solo career.
Again, more excuses.
Nothing about "Work It Out" indicated that it was for a soundtrack. The fact that you're in here listing like three different movies proves you don't know what you're talking about.
Intent is beside the point. The point still stands that success as the lead of a successful group doesn't always translate to solo success.
03 bonnie & clyde wasn't even that popular.
so youre telling me that you saw the video to "work it out" and immediately thought about that being a serious rollout for her albums?

@ the bolded. as always, you completely missed the point. I'm starting to think that you have aschburgers(sp?)
intent IS INDEED the point. beyonce is more Diana ross than somebody like say Coko or an Athena cage.
I legit think she'd be a big, mature, respected artist..
I cant think of any respected mature artists that cant sing, write or produce.
