at that time pass first pgs were the wave..everyone described gil as an undersized shooting guard..

Dude was a joy to watch. could put up 30 like it was nothing, also he did those ridiculous jumpers from long range like curry does. In some ways he was curry before curry
Yeah i feel he was a little bit ahead of his time too. He was a scoring guard who did the majority of the ballhandling for his squad when that wasnt the fashionable thing to be. Nowadays he would be praised to no end just like cats like Steph are.

Gilbert was a dope.. This is when the East had certified all star caliber/franchise players on the all star team, not these Kyle Korver types. :banderas:

20 Second Timeout: Gilbert Arenas Scores a "Quiet" 60

Kobe Bryant guarded Arenas throughout the game. Lakers Coach Phil Jackson considered trying other options but decided that Bryant, a six-time member of the All-Defensive Team, had a better chance than anyone else of corralling Arenas: "Yes, we thought we'd take him off, but he wanted him and he thought that it was the best matchup out there, so I let him have his way. We thought that nobody else had really stepped in and found a way to defend him at all."

Parker only played 26 minutes that night.
They weren't all on him.

I think before the 60 point game gil had been yelling hibachi every time he was making shots and was making ridiculous ones that according to Kobe weren't quality shots.
so when Gil hang the 60 it was a vendetta thing. and the nikka was yelling quality shots instead when he was taking the shots

One of the greatest games I've ever seen :blessed: They were hiding Kobe on defense most of the game as usual but once overtime started, Kobe thought he was up to the challenge and got absolutely destroyed :dead:

Hell
Gil used his body well, knew how to create space from contact, decent mid range jumper but mostly he was good with body contact, reminds me alot like Harden.

Without the mass flopping.

Outside of that I don't think he was special, not a great shooter or passer, just used his body really well.

Gilbert 6'4 215
Harden 6'5 225

I realize these guards/forwards are shorter and weight more than the typical back in the day 6'7 225 forward like Pippen and so forth.

he was also making game winners left and right during the 2006-2007 season

he had one in Seattle, had a couple at home vs. Milwaukee and Utah

it almost became a weekly thing

The Wiz also had the best record in the East in January or February 2007... then it all went to hell in April when Caron got hurt, then Gerald Wallace fell on Gil's knee

I don't get how people say gil was not a good shooter, is it percentages? I mean hes no curry but he put a similar pressure on opposing defenses that I'd actually take some inefficiency as a trade off.
and I can't think of anyone who can be considered a bad shooter when he had the range that he had. Dude literally made curry distance type shots. I remember some of the buzzer beaters.. walking away hands raised before the ball entered the bucket.. something Nick young tried to duplicate except ball didn't go in lol. Curry again does that too. Also curry had the same criticism as Gil of not playing D.
lastly both of them played for golden state. I always thought around that time If you want good offensive players get a golden state player. They just had a knack for having them. Same way I think Indiana finds small forward diamonds.

Gil was a beast, but during all star he never showed out and unfortunately prime Wade always got the better of him
