Dudes feeling like they wanna "punch" guys in the face because they don't have him in their top 20? :childplease: EMINEM IS THE MOST OVERRATED HIP HOP ARTIST EVER. PERIOD.

:damn: come on breh let me stan in peace...I can't help it, it's almost that time.

:blessed:

I'm just saying, I think all things considered top 20 across the board is reasonable place to set the bar, even for someone who might have bias against him.

:aicmon:

Stop it. Eminem is easily the most overrated MC of all time. ZERO UNIVERSALLY considered CLASSIC albums, several below average albums, a shytLOAD of wack/corny tracks and verses and one of the most notable skill fall offs in hip hop history. Dude wouldn't even have threads made about him if he was my color, breh. Somebody oughta punch you in the face for stannin whiteboy so hard.

IMO, SSLP, MMLP TES and relapse are all 4 or better, and a hell of a lot of people consider the first two classics.

- skillset
- about a 4 mic average over his solo catalog
- 1 dope group project and 8 mile
- his underground and battle circuit run
- sales
- longevity
- influence
- impact

I think that's worthy of top 20 all time, easily, 10-15 for me. (overall/criteria based)

He's overrated because people in general can't be objective and put the sales and hype inflation in proper perspective when ranking him. I still feel like he's solid though, he just doesn't have the catalog to really be getting top 5 nods like he does when they have the mass media popularity contests.

Consensus is no, and I agree. Only reason being that his last 3 solo albums have been mistargets. Looking back at the songs on Slim Shady LP (lyrical content, beats, sequencing), I'd have to say if that had been the only album he ever dropped, people would still be bugging to this day at how absolutely crazy dude was. I think this time in the spotlight has exposed a lot of the holes in his structure and his abilities as an MC overall.

No question the number of 5 star tracks he's dropped is in the double digits and are going to always be recognized. His personality and brand are what will have his name always at the top of people's minds for the long run. Eminem did things differently than other rappers, and he did what he did very well for quite some time.

Here's the thing about Eminem...

White people REALLY think he is the greatest rapper without really knowing enough about rapping, the aspects to rapping with the exception of rhyming, the technical aspects of rap and the extensive backgrounds and abilities of rappers not named Eminem.

Eminem is actually a DOPE rapper, but he is not on par with Jay, Nas, AZ, G Rap, Rakim, Pac, Pun, BIG etc...This is NOT his skin color being held against him, it's just facts.

I think he suffers from his subject matter more than anything, no matter how much skill he may have, he will always be looked at as a sideshow rather than a serious contender. And this is very much HIS FAULT!

For me it has nothing to do with him being white, I can't take dude seriously. If he had contined down the same path as Infinite he would have more of an argument with me.

I'll sum it up like this, he had regular skits about an alter ego that got his dikk sucked by ICP.

In other words, if he would have tried to fit in more. If he had signed to rawkus and kept just rapping like your standard rapper nobody would have known his name.

:snoop:

So glad he didn't sign to rawkus, would have been interesting to see what kind of different direction he may have taken but I can almost guarantee it wouldn't have been as dynamic.

He should have retired after 8 Mile. He threw all his credibility in the bushes after that. I used to be the biggest fan, but Recovery did it for me. He had the biggest run in hiphop history, he is/was one of the most talented mc's to ever do it, and you can put him in your top whatever based on that. But after a 10 year drought, I'm done with it, and I don't make top 5 lists anyway.

He was at his best on MMLP, to me.

His themes after that album started to get a little too shaky. It's never been about his ability to rap, the cat is clearly ridiculous with it. But he takes his music to places where he can't really show how lyrically gifted he is.

He finally got back with Dre on production on Relapse and rhymed in that weird ass accent the whole album. He just does a lot of odd shyt that takes away from what he does best. I think that's why it's hard for people to consider him over other cats on their lists or whatever.

MMLP is a dope album but is not in the same league of albums like Chronic, Ready to Die, 36 Chambers, etc...none of his albums are. Let's be real. And you're right...none of them have aged well.

The impact he has is mainly because of the fact that he's a marketable whiteboy that got an OFFICIAL black hip hop co-sign in Dr, Dre. Dude has not been in the game for 20 years and he's been generating predominantly average to wack, uninspired music for almost a decade now. Dudes feeling like they wanna "punch" guys in the face because they don't have him in their top 20? :childplease: EMINEM IS THE MOST OVERRATED HIP HOP ARTIST EVER. PERIOD.

I dunno bro, to me it is in the same league as those albums. Lyrically its Ems best album, and you've also got thematic cohesion and Dre in his second prime on the boards."The Way I Am", "Stan": "Criminal", "Remember Me", "Kim"; so many classic joints. I agree that Em stans are some of the worst in hip hop, and this makes the music offputting, but we're going to have to agree to disagree on this album being classic.

I don't get any of you guys arguments about Eminem being overrated. He's not a top 5 emcee, but he's made incredible songs and albums. All the things you hold against Eminem, might as well hold against Redman, ODB, and other rappers who are abstract and animated in their raps.

No dude peaked early in his career

after the Eminem show :scusthov:

He has flashes of brilliance from time to time but he hasn't had it consistently in over 11 years
