He used to be a beast on the mic but I don't like too much of his music for him to be in my personal top five. I always thought he spat better as a guest on other peoples tracks than his own after MMLP but even that dried up.

How come people exclude Eminem from a possible top 5 position because of poor subject matter but not Jay-Z?

I feel like Jay Z talks about more and is more positive than Em, also talks to the streets more. Examples Jay's I Still Got Love For You verse, Minority Report, I Made It, A Star Is Born even, Jay feels more authentic than Em to me. Song Cry, these are all types of songs I don't feel Eminem makes.

Disagree. Eminem makes more songs with substance on average I'd say. His corny songs are just cornier too.
Song Cry is like the go-to 'deep' Jay-z song and it's pretty standard still. Eminem has tons of those, throughout all his albums: Rock Bottom, Stan, Sing For The Moment, Mockingbird, Deja Vu, Going Through Changes etc.
Plus Eminem really was the first to take the being a father-aspect and make it a regular topic to address, before Jay-z, Nas, Game etc. embraced it. He doesn't get enough credit for that.

So MMLP aint a classic round here? :why:

Even Dre said that's the closest he's ever come to producing a perfect album.

From a purely technical standpoint top 5 in his prime. Overall impact and success within the game top 5. As an all round artists and emcee, Em would be top 10-20 for sure, you could make a case for 10 other emcees with a better catalogue than him. Recovery and Encore were big let downs, and D12 World was disappointing.

He also has a lot of tracks that are just borderline trash (Puke, Fack, We Made You etc). SSLP, MMLP and Eminem Show were a great trifecta, and for the amount of hate it gets I love Relapse, but yeah, his music hasn't aged that well, and as of late his musics been hit and miss.

Dre didn't even produce the album.....

first Eminem album Dre fully produced was ironically "Relapse" over a decade after he signed him

Its really disgusting how much shyt this dude Dre gets away with

nah..

he ain't even top 20, if you wanna keep it really funky.. he's had his moments, but overall- his discography is laughable.. his best stuff, is usually guest appearances.. that says a lot in itself..

You think Jay's cornier songs are cornier than EM's? I don't think Jay has ever done a song as bad as Puke, Fack and most of the Encore album and a bunch of others. You not think the Jay songs I mentioned were somewhat deep? For instance I love his verse on I Still Got Love For You, I found that pretty deep and honest. I think a lot of it may be preference so might just be a case of just differing opinions and perspectives.

Just Loose it also was one of the whackest songs I ever heard, I guess as a person I don't fukk with Em either so that affects my capability to feel his music also. I can't stand the regular rape references and there was the whole racist tapes shyt i thought was fukked up too.

Stop it. Eminem is easily the most overrated MC of all time. ZERO UNIVERSALLY considered CLASSIC albums, several below average albums, a shytLOAD of wack/corny tracks and verses and one of the most notable skill fall offs in hip hop history. Dude wouldn't even have threads made about him if he was my color, breh. Somebody oughta punch you in the face for stannin whiteboy so hard.
Agreed. He's skilled, but I'm not sure that gets him into my top 25.

You gotta be kidding. Em spits pain, anger, and frustration on the track. Jay-Z comes no where close to making Kim, Stan, Rock Bottom or If I had.

Drop the World verse :wow: and he killed No Love. To spit pain like that you have to be on the level of Pac, Scarface or B.I.G. I don't see how Em is overrated. He does so many things well. This is why I rate him so high, every rapper peaks and only produce 3 or 4 great albums, Em posseses those same stats. And he was ridiculous from 1997 to 2002 before the new era kicked off. All you guys favorites like Rakim, Ice Cube and Nas had similiar 3 or 4 album runs.

The bias against Em on here is ridiculous. Em is unquestionably in my top 5 all time.:salute:

Heres my top 10 artists in order for reference, oh and I am black. Skills, longevity, and impact goes into my list.

Jay
Nas
Eminem
Pac
Big
Kanye
Common
Rakim
Ice Cube
KRS-One
(Honorable mentions: LL Cool J, Ghostface, Black Thought, Big Daddy Kane, G rap, Scarface, Andre 3000)

People need to get off the fact that Em is the biggest selling artist in hip hop history and wouldn't get the same credit if he was black, he himself has said if he was black he would have sold half, but that his skill shouldn't be overlooked, go back and listen to Til I Collapse.

Bottom line, Em has ALWAYS had diverse subject matter, and is probably the most open mc in history regarding his personal life, people get too caught up in the zany Slim Shady persona, but that's just a part of who he is and shows his versatlity, he couldnt have the hustler persona like Jay or street poet persona like Nas, it wouldnt fit him.

Also, Em imo next to Kanye is one of the most creative songwriters in rap history, Lose Yourself, 8 Mile, Stay Wide Awake, Toy Soldiers, Rock Bottom, Hailies Song, Stan etc etc, Em has loads of diverse and awesome material. Em's 1st 3 albums are all at least near classics in my view, Encore and Recovery were weak and Relapse was solid, add on Infinite and 8 Mile soundtrack and countless classic collabs, Em has put in work. Fuk the sales, just considering skill in music Em should be in everyone's top 10. :smugdraper:
