Bootlegging was rife EVERYWHERE you goddamn idiot. :mjlol:

Are you now implying that dub tape decks only existed in NY?

I'll let @Big Mel tell you about copping tapes "fresh off the African's blanket" :mjpls:

Keep exposing what a out of touch, cac-raised, uber-ofey you are...thinking bootlegging was restricted to one city :mjlol:

naS stans furious right now. @spliz already told you that the nikka was regional. Also, I gotta disagree with you talmbout everyone had the bootleg. This is 94, bootlegging wasnt a big issue at all. In 94 I was 13, nobody I knew or their older bros were fukkin with naS. No one gave a shyt til IWW. Illmatic was a hip hop coaster for my capri sun juice box.... although we was fukkin wit tapes in 94 :mjpls:
Say whatever you want lil nikka, but trust me when I tell you, whoever your favorite rapper was in the 94; they were bumpin illmatic religiously. At the time, rappers were more excited than regular fans.

So what made you come to the conclusion that bootlegging in NY was any different than anywhere else?

It would be one thing if you came up in NY during that period and thought that...but the fact that you're not from there and thought bootlegging was any different than any other urban/inner city area is suspect :leostare:

Don't act.

Don't act like everybody wasn't fuccin' wit' Da Brat. We was lovin' her chit.
We didn't know who Nas was for the most part.
Breh, you're missing the point of why Nas was so dope; he was so dope because he was WAY OVER a lot of people's heads. People had to explain to other people what he was saying, that's why he printed the lyrics for IWW so people could read

LOL No - Nas was/is dope because he could rap...

which is exactly what I thought when I first heard him around It Was Written came out.

I had no idea what Illmatic was until after It Was Written came out - nobody I kew had ever
talked about it, and I never heard it being played anywhere. It just is what it was.

Hard to say..

Rap has become less regional with this generation,.. Down here nobody was listening to anything from New York outside of a little Biggie here and there... Although i was young as hell when Illmatic came out I still don't remember anything from him until It Was Written came out... I may have slight memories of It Ain't Hard To Tell but that might just be the Human Nature sample..

I remember being in high school getting clowned for listening to Liquid Swords and Illmatic and shyt like that.. I got exposed to rap message boards around 01 so thats how I learned about a lot of shyt..

Illmatic didn't sell because everybody had it before it dropped officially..the reason so many had the bootleg and the reason the album is short is because it was so anticipated and so many ppl wanted it that they was dubbing from friends...same reason brand nubians didn't go gold...make no mistake nas was that dude...
Illmatic didn't sell because it wasn't promoted or advertised
