Nah that was probably the most impressive and unlikely championship run in NBA history. Everyone had the Mavs dead in the water, peaked years ago when they blew the finals, then the next year won 67 and an MVP for Dirk only to get upset in the first round. Just a treadmill team on the downward slope, then all the sudden played the best ball of their entire run at the exact right time. Nobody had them going anywhere, let alone winning it all.
WCSF against defending champ Lakers (who returned everyone): 4-0 sweep.
Lakers had
Kobe at 1st-team All-NBA and 4th in MVP voting
Gasol at 2nd-team All-NBA
Bynum at his peak, would be 2nd-team All-NBA the next year
Odom putting up 14-9-3 and winning 6th Man of the Year in a runaway
plus MWP, Barnes, and Blake all at ages 30-31
Ended in a 122-86 embarrassment where Jason Terry outscored Kobe 32 to 17 on fewer shots.
WCF against next year's WC champs OKC: 4-1
Thunder had:
Durant at 1st-team All-NBA and 5th in MVP voting
Westbrook at 2nd-team All-NBA
Ibaka putting up 10 and 8 with 2.4 blocks/game, 2nd in DPOY voting the next year
Harden as a great 6th man coming off the bench for 12ppg, would be 6th Man of the year the next year
plus Seflosha, Collison, Perkins
Ended in three straight Dallas wins after OKC had tied it up 1-1
Finals against next year's NBA Champs Miami: 4-2
Miami had:
Lebron at 1st-team All-NBA and 2nd in MVP voting
Wade at 2nd-team All-NBA
Bosh an All-star putting up 19 and 8 as the third option
Ended in three straight Dallas wins after Miami went up 2-1
In those three rounds, Dallas took out MOST of the All-NBA 1st and 2nd teams, MOST of the NBA's top-5 MVP vote, and they only lost 3 games along the way. They also beat the defending champs AND both teams that would meet in the next year's Finals. That was a sick run. No one can take shyt away from that team.
