If Public Defenders are lousy why do they make so much?

because it's a profession... can't just hire a guy from some parking lot to show up and undercut the economy of it by taking the job for peanuts with no credentials.

Public defenders are under paid if you ask me. Just off the volume of cases and constant shyt they have to do. There are alot of good public defenders. Because they are over burden with high volume cases it can become an issue of not being able to be 100% available to your clients.

What kills me is all the dumb muthafukkas who catch light felonies or class A misdemeanors and get raped by private attorneys.

Catch a misdemeanor and hire lawyers that ran upna check for 10k or more and all they did was agree on a plea agreement offer that a public defender could of easily gotten as well

Realistically speaking not everyone can be on the high end. Beating median salary is the American dream at this point if you not an influencer nor STEM

Lol you think that’s being overpaid? nikka it’s the opposite. They’re well underpaid. And they don’t suck because they suck. They suck because they don’t have any time or attention to put into a case. They’re overloaded with cases and just trying to move onto the next one. And you also don’t have any money to help them help you on the case. Some of the money you spend on the case is so the lawyer can hire other professionals like private investigators and shyt to find these out to help you.

Public defenders can’t “easily” get anything. Part of the money you’re spending on a lawyer is their reputation and network. A decent lawyer has relationships with the DAs, prosecutors and judges. Whereas a prosecutor knows you’re using a public different will try to railroad you just because.
