Rap music is street poetry with groove. If we found out today that Seamus Heaney didn't write his own poetry, he'd be stripped of his titles overnight.
It's a big deal.
When you're singing, that can be anyone's song. And there's power in that, because it's a 'shared' communal experience. It's meant to be broad. But when you're rapping, it comes from you directly. No filter. That's what makes rap so powerful; it's highly specific. To have someone else write your rhymes defeats the whole point of rapping.
