I saw a gif on here one day where she's pantomiming pulling triggers, I died laughing.

Blame T.I.

Eazy E tried bringing a white female rapper into the game, and Ice Cube shut her shyt down. Even wrote Cave bytch.
Then years later you had Fergie and Gwen Stefani in the public eye rapping. :snoop:
Then Jay signed that british midget Lady SOveriegn and failed.... it s was just a matter aog time that someone tried the formula again.
T.I. succeeded with the $$$ but fukk no is his protege the real deal.

Busta Rhymes was talking about this on icet's podcast. How there's rapper right now that everyone thinks is the nicest but he has a team of writers.

Ghostwriting is the steroids of rap music. Everyone's using it but people will swear they never have and never will.

Someone like Kanye, I look at it as a collection of people putting together a product and he's the face of it. It doesn't bother me cause I really enjoy his music I just won't be able to put him in my top 10. I think most mainstream rappers have help with lyrics or even songs written for them(even Kendrick or J. Cole)

I remember someone posting an article about some rapper that got signed, right after he was ushered into a room with a bunch of writers who all were putting together lyrics an melodies. With the amount of money that this music generates there not going to risk it on one guy. They will use his image and fans though.

That is false.
J.cole writes his own. Sometimes he gets writers to write on hooks (he gives those people their writing credits), but he writes his verses alone.

I think Kendrick writes his own stuff too, Idk.

I've heard about Kanye using ghost writers. Drake & his friends/people under his lable write things for & with him, I've heard, I'm sure he writes by himself sometimes too. Nicki has/had people writing for her sometimes (her ex).

I don't mind rappers getting help with their hooks/chorus or the singing parts in their songs. They should be able to write their verses alone though.

This is why rap will never truly be respected. Too many fans are supremely disrespectful.

Nobody is telling bruce Springsteen to "get the f*ck out the game", or BillY Joel etc

People like Jay Z and Nas are rapping still at a high level for love of the art and you wanna "make room" for some new nikka who just wants a Benz or a chain.

HUH? Your interpretation is off the charts and has nothing to do with the concept of this thread.

First of all, I don't give a fukk about Bruce Springsteen or Billy Joel. They're not hip hop. The only thing they have in common with Jay-Z and Nas is that they're legacy artists.

However, no one expects Bruce Springsteen to write all his own shyt or Billy Joel. They're measured against a completely different set of metrics. They're singers and instrumentalists, which I covered in the first post if you read it.

The overall point is - if you're an artist, and want to make a living as an artist, then be an artist. You can't have other people craft your shyt for you.

And if you're not writing your own rhymes (which inherently means you're not designing the flows either because they go hand-in-hand), then what the fukk are you really doing?

Bruce Springsteen at the end of the day is still going into the booth and doing what he made himself famous for: making up songs, playing his instruments, singing his songs, etc.

He was addressing you implying that a rapper should just stop making music, and get out the way for younger rappers, when he turns 40...which is just dumb and I agree with him is one of the reasons rap music doesn't get the respect other genres does.

In regards to ghostwriting, I can never respect any rapper who has whole songs and verses written for them. No way. I don't care how great you may deliver it.

if u dont write ya own raps

ur not a rapper

kanye west, dr dre, diddy etc
Kanye does write most of his rhymes though, so is he a rapper most of the time?
nikkas can't even tel the difference between Kanye writing and Kanye not writing.

His most "assisted writing" project is 808s and Heartbreaks which is his least lyrical from an emcee standpoint and his "least written" are Graduation and LR (nothing at all) which are his most lyrical from an emcee standpoint, CD had Che writing 1 verse on Jesus Walks and MBDTF/Yeezus I don't know that's when he started with that 5-6 producers, flying 100 nikkas out to Hawaii shyt..

That's not what I was talking about.

If you can't write a verse anymore, whether you're 15 or 30 or 60, and that's the main thing you're required to do, then get the fukk out the game. It has nothing to do with age. It has to do with "are you as an artist actually doing artist work". Period.

a better analogy would be jazz music. i hate it when posters compare rap to cac rock.
