When I was growing up it would be 9.
Today not sure what they teach

It is 9, and PEMDAS has been written wrong this whole time.

It should be PE(M&D)(A&S) as in do those pairs of operations at the same time :mindblown:

Also, I hope they're teaching it the same :mjtf:! This ain't some theory that's up for debate, this is simple ass operations...economies would crumble if somehow changing the way we do the 4 operations was possible :damn:

Depends on how in the way too many ways they want you to use the order of operations.....I have seen where the teacher wanted the two distrubuted into the parenthesis before totaling the parenthesis.......:francis:

The answer is 9 as it's been explained numerous times in this thread.

I'm guessing you are trolling.

You have to deal with the parenthesis first.

(1+2) = 3
2(3) = 6

Now the parenthesis are eliminated, you can move left to right.

6÷6 = 1

The reality is, this problem needs to be presented in a less ambiguous manner.

So 6 ÷ [2(1+2)].

It is purposefully ambiguous.

As written, it’s saying 6 ÷ 2 * (1 + 2) and the answer is 9.

The “P” in PEMDAS only refers to what’s inside of the parentheses. Also the M and D are on the same level. You don’t do multiplication before division by rule, you do whichever comes first reading left to right.
