Twitter came around in 2006, our access to reliable information worked good enough in the days before that.

Saying that twitter is NEEDED is demonstrably wrong.

to a lot of people a single app for alerts is overkill, email needs to be managed if you're a heavy user of alerts and txt alerts can feel spammy. go look on the alert tweets to see users offering information or asking additional questions. all the other alternatives are one-way.

NYC is large enough that it should own it's own mastodon server and offer alert/PSA accounts for all city agencies and services using the activityPub protocol so any developer can use it in a app or site.

You can only believe half the shyt you see on Twitter anyway. You can get your quick fix for news from a variety of different sources.

Twitter is'nt real but more and more, companies and even governments (local and beyond) are using it to affect the real world

Some of ya'll hate it because you've spent to much time looking up and looking at dumb shyt, it's all you see in your timeline and now you think it's the worst thing in the world

Half the dumb shyt that gets posted on The Coli from Twitter? That shyt NEVER crosses my timeline, ever
Yep. I only see the most depraved twitter shyt when I come on here.

a single app for alerts is overkill?
:heh:

Why would you not trust the MTA's app or their website for updates?

Do you do your banking using twitter also? :heh:

Do you use twitter to send messages to your family members too? :heh:

Twitter, as it is existed over the past decade, is finished. Better to go directly to the source you need questions from, it's all a google search away anyway.

i'm not a registered twitter user but I have used as a search engine for real-time info. theres nothing that compares to it.

theres a reason google indexed tweets for years and put a lot of them at the top of results. like they do wikipedia.

The funny thing is, Twitter got 238 million monthly average users. Which means 7.8 billion people around the world don't use it.

In reality not as many people on it as everyone thinks.

Additionally, Twitter is becoming a little more along the lines of message-boardy lately.
As it gets closer to that, reddit starts taking more of it's user base (at least you can downvote on reddit).

For sites like this Twitter has a bigger impact because it's a smaller community and people like to wade in the negativity.

Non-toxic people who are more positive-minded however most likely avoid the app.
At over 1 billion monthly average users, there are more people doing positive/funny TikTok dance/info videos than writing long-winded Twitter rants.

If you want info and professionalism to stay on the latest real news with legit bleeding edge breakthroughs then the absolute best site is Linkedin. You can track who's working where, what teams top talent are integrating on, etc. I've learned nearly every crazy breakthrough reported on Twitter or Reddit is basically old news if you follow and monitor Linkedin. Even a respected figure in a space on Twitter announcing what team they're joining is most likely done after they've updated their Linkedin info, if they even make such an announcement (while chances are they'll likely to update Linkedin no matter).

If you need info from the MTA, how is it a hassle to just go to their site?

Or you sign up for the text alerts? No way they should look "spammy" if you signed up for them.
