NYC is general is heavily divided, especially in terms of neighborhoods

Even within neighborhoods, there are subdivisions

A good example of this is in Brooklyn in particular. A lot of Brooklyn neighborhoods had sizable Black populations a few years ago. Over the course of my lifetime (38 years) I have steadily seen these neighborhoods decline in Black population and fall victim to gentrification.

Now these same white people moving into these neighborhoods are integrating their OWN groups and organizations, claiming they speak for the whole neighborhood, and meanwhile, the Black people in the neighborhood are like "Who the fukk are you???".

My neighborhood, Fort Greene/Clinton Hill, is an especially prominent example of this. Go ahead, and Google some of the local papers and or news sites.

They'll move in, live here for 5 maybe even 10 years and then SWEAR they're not gentrifiers or that they want to bring the neighborhood "together"

Meanwhile, these places always had local orgs, community groups, etc.

It's Christopher Columbus Syndrome but for the modern age. It's going on in Bed Stuy, Crown Heights, and Flatbush too.

And they know this, and they use their whiteness, and their money, and their power, to affect change for THEM

Meanwhile the Black people who may have been living there for 30...40...50 years are like....WTF??

And there are politicians (yes even Black ones!) that support this kind of thing too, because they know damn well they can't win elections without the colonizers, since just campaigning on what Black people SPECIFICALLY want is a non-starter.

It always has to be tied to some other shyt that we likely could give a flying fukk about

This is exactly whats going on in Chicago.. Word for word. Englewood, Roseland, Pullman, Woodlawn and etc. I have to add 0 to what you said because its a mirror. Except its more mexicans doing to gentrification

Most of the things that happen early get posted here within five minutes of happening

I'll be alright

Yeah and the links 90% of the time are from Twitter lol.

Whenever something pops off, Twitter is the first place I go. News sites/channels gonna have it up on their platform 20-30 minutes later. Twitter has it's bs but for breaking news it's the go to site

So its not that you wont have access to the information, but more that you need the information the second after it happens.

Not really. Like digg to Reddit was damn near overnight
that was because of user revolt and don't forget that digg 4.0 "upgrade" wiped out comments and peoples saved/favorited posts. it was a easy choice for users because the site removed a lot of functionality and made the algorithm even more prone to vote brigading since right wingers had been organizing elsewhere online the content got worse.

its not only that the news sanitize photos and videos while you can get the uncensored truth on twitter. too many times i've seen news stories omit photos or parts of videos because of profanity, gore, or excessive violence. the news have to put out content agreeable to advertisers.

I'd rather get live feed from multiple sources so I can see how things unfold versus wait for it to be chopped and screwed then told after the fact.
I feel you, but I’d rather good information than fast information. And even a lot of the information posted on Twitter is twisted and framed with agendas. The issue isn’t speed of information, it’s quality news sources.

I never said we won't have access to information. My point was how quickly we can get information via Twitter before the traditional methods.

And during the height of the pandemic, twitter did the exact same thing. This site is full of twitter wars of "my tweet is more realistic than your tweet".. At the end of the day, everyone has a bias or narrative they want to push.

Never even used twitter.

3 of the last 5 threads you contributed to excluding this thread begin with posts from twitter.

you benefit from it even when you think you aren't aware of it.
