dumbass, unverified, over-simplified, opinion loaded angles that take a story in every direction before sanity takes over if at all

but for real - you can set up your phone with apps for everything from local news alerts, market watches, policy changes, etc from legit sources.

acting like this was the only way that emergency alerts came out.... people managed to get notified just fine before twitter and will do just fine after. if anything, waiting for something to trend before taking it seriously was becoming a growing issue.

beyond the press releases by politicians, police and corporations, the mainstream media has been getting a not so insignificant amount of their news stories from social media for over 10 years now. this isn't just in america, it's worldwide. citizen journalists on twitter have been the ones to point out things thats have made headlines around the world.

those legit sources do good work with investigative journalism but they build on what they found on twitter and other social media sites.

in fact we know those legit sources you want people to go back to have historically ignored many communities and similar news stories decades prior. they report on it now because they know it's what people are talking about without their contribution.

It's easy to see who is a regular Twitter user and who isn't a regular Twitter user from this thread.

Been using Twitter since 2009. It's reach in communication and wealth of knowledge is matched by few. It's so much better than reddit.

Twitter is'nt real but more and more, companies and even governments (local and beyond) are using it to affect the real world

Some of ya'll hate it because you've spent to much time looking up and looking at dumb shyt, it's all you see in your timeline and now you think it's the worst thing in the world

Half the dumb shyt that gets posted on The Coli from Twitter? That shyt NEVER crosses my timeline, ever
Same. I've been using Twitter since 2009 and I never see any of that stuff that is posted here.

Then again, you follow people on Twitter and they retweet stuff and there's no control over that.

I could expound on the importance of Twitter for hours...but it's access to real time information as well as specialized knowledge in many areas can't be beat. There's a reason why so many in their respective industries use the platform.

I really don't consider opinions as a source of information. When I talk about being able to see multiple sources of an event I'm talking about witness accounts, video clips, ect. You will sometimes see accounts post what's really happening in their country in a crisis before their internet is cut off. Those are some of the examples I used in my OP.

You'll be reading a post from someone with less than 20 followers with information or videos of something happening and journalists are DMing or posting in the actual comments asking permission to use the information or even further question the poster.

So should we continue to use that White supremacist platform?

I don’t think you understand disproportionate outrage. Twitter isn’t the be all end all.
You’re right it’s not the end all be all but Most folks wouldn’t know about alot of shyt that wasn’t immediately reported on the news. I seen shyt happening in Ferguson as well as Charlotte that wouldn’t have gotten the traction.

Folks from rural town getting opportunities due to twitter RTs they wouldn’t have otherwise. Being given resources on how to increase your salary and self learning tools.

shyt I met folks based on very niche mutual interest like going to a Foreign Exchange show or tweeting Playa Fly lyrics.

Yep. I’ve been on it since 2010. I think the openness of twitter makes it better than Reddit…. Well not necessarily better but I’ll take twitter info and look for it in other places like Reddit. I’ll search “ Napoleon Hill” on Twitter to see with someone else has tweeted and get put on to similar people
