If we're keeping it 100, people expect TOO MUCH out of a $60 video game

My issue comes with buying a $60 game then having to buy a $30 pass to access content that's already on the $60 game, just stowed away.

But when you look at it from a cost per amount of hours played basis, video games are one of the cheapest forms of entertainment.

depends on the game. A great sports game, yes. GTA series, yes.

But some other games are useless once you beat them.

But I see your point tho. I will disagree b/c in the PSOne era of 39.99 games, we got some greats.

I agree.

The $60 model is archaic.

And frankly it's not even real, considering the dlc and season passes. I mean how much did destiny day 1 players really pay for that game if they wanted all the content?

Games should explore the pay scale. Get rid of season passes and price games from $20-$150 but you get everything all at once. No micros or season passes.

All games shouldn't cost the same arbitrary price.

Yup, people should be grateful inflation never hit the video game market.

60 dollars is chump change.

60 is plenty of money considering the average person is unaware of the TRUE cost of developing games. It isn't nearly as massive as the media would lead us to believe.

So do you have concrete numbers on what the average costs it is to make or what?

If game companies were losing money, why can RETAIL outlets give a 20% discount out of the gate? 80 percent of a games budget is marketing, and even the cost of that is dropping. A one man developer made Dust: An Elysian Tale for 30k (or less), yet the new castlevania supposedly needs 3 million from kickstarter. LOL

Yeah games cost a lot, but they are often spending a lot on their marketing.

The Witcher 1 cost 20 million to develop, Witcher 2, 25 million. The Witcher 3 cost 81 million including marketing. Now that game also had over 500 voice actors, amazing graphics and was a long detailed game.

It also was everywhere and wise, YouTube, on television commercials, internet banner ads, so they spent a grip. I would say at least 45 million on marketing.

So if prices raise, more money will go into marketing you can believe that. They want the game in as many houses as possible and believe marketing is the best way for that to happen.
