They did that, because they were here already and wanted a work force. They did not do that in preparation of doing it to Black People. In fact, once they realized the indians were not able to do the work, dying too easily, they resorted to enslaving Black people with the help of Black people. They saw Africans enslaving each other, and got in on it to use for their own colonies.

No, he does not need to do that in this case. Do you know who HRW is? It seems you do not, in order to make such an asinine request. HRW is Human Rights Watch, a well known and respect organization. The experts on this issue, which would trump anything he would state on the issue. So him using them is perfectly fine.

Instead, to counter what he says, you need to find an organization just as well respected and knowledgable on the issue.
