I make my beats on a laptop with nothing but the touch pad and keyboard that comes with it... I don't give a fukk, music is music, every notr hit on that keyboard is me, from my mind frame.

This thread in 2013 is laughable. Even most of those guys that used to sample records and use MPCs back then are using digital something now. Why? Because it's convienent and the possibilities that can come from it are endless. Besides, as much I swore on vinyl back in the day...it's an inconvient and outdated medium.

It doesn't matter what you use, as loud as it sounds good then that's all that matters. I've been producing since 1997. I use Maschine and Acid pro now, that's all I need.

the digital era has fukked up a lot of the record shops, going out to dig/find samples is a big part of the beatmaking process, almost as important as the actual beat making process itself. A lot of places went out of business because of this.
I dont think it matters what you use to make your beats, all that matter is the end result..Its nice when cats stick to using hardware because it keeps that essence alive and that hardware sound cant be replicated with software

I came up off of the record stores. I bought mainly house and techno vinyls when I started Djing in the late 90s/early 00s along with hip-hop records. Over the years, I just watched as all of the specialty stores closed and the rest of the catalogs from those stores was sold to big mom and pop stores. The culture just changed as the digital era just made it easier to get music. Back in the day, the record store was like a meeting place of like minded people (producers, DJs, music heads, etc)...now those record stores (the ones that are still open), just aren't the same. It's a completely different crowd just that isn't on it like we were.

As much as I miss those days, times change. Technology makes it easier to make music. Having Maschine (hardware and DAW software) just makes it easier. Why stay stuck in the past just because and ignore progress? Or rather...refuse to take part in it? Evolution is about moving forward...not backward.

Exactly dude...

I went from using an MPC 2000XL as my last hardware piece to Maschine and anyone I've come across who was a died hard Akai / MPC head and started using Maschine never looked back. It's just pointless if you understand the MPC in and out and understand what Maschine can do and how much time is cut off to doing certain things (IE Midi VSTsand keyboards in general) and time is money when you're at a level of putting product out. I'm all for expanding.
