For me personally, there's no obligation to. I don't really have a deep explanation other then that it is my preference.

You can still have a probationary period without actually living together. You can stay with each other for an extended period of time, while still maintaining separate residences. Let's say she does "change" and you don't agree with it, you're stuck living with someone you don't like anymore. Then you have to worry about breaking leases and things like that. If one person doesn't have somewhere to live, things get even more complicated.

That is a weak, feeble display of commitment. I need to see that the woman is willing to toss in all of the chips at the table. Hesitation is a sign of combative behavior.

Ohhh I see what you're saying. It doesn't have to do with protecting resources or anything like that. I meant legally binding more in a Christian sense like we're obligated to work as a partnership under God and all that. I know someone mentioned that having a reason to live together outside of religious reasons is nonsense, but that's kind of the driving force for me. The practical things people are mentioning I guess make sense, but I don't think that an evaluation of playing house for a couple years will create an accurate trajectory of what things will be like in the future.
