I'm sorry but...listening to rock really trivializes the talent of a rap producer

So you feel rock production takes more talent than rap production. What about lyricism/song writing? Which genre takes more skill?

yep especially noticeable during live performances

thought this while watching an Otis Redding video on youtube. the Barkays were playing w/ him- its like 6 dudes w/ tremendous talent & none were really out for credit

also it takes years of practice before you even think about joining a band

vs. someone like soulja boy messing around on his computer as a kid & making a hit song

If we are including composing the instruments in rock...guitars and what not then sadly I have to say rock.

If I'm comparing what Billy Corgan does to lets say Jay-Z...Corgan takes much more talent. As far as lyrics...rap no question.

explore :tu:

Fear and panic in the air
I want to be free
From desolation and despair
And I feel like everything I saw
Is being swept away
Well I refuse to let you go

Life will flash before my eyes
So scattered and lost
I want to touch the other side
And no one thinks they are to blame
Why can't we see
That when we bleed we bleed the same

The problem with comparing rap production to rock is rock there isnt just one main guy doing everything. You have 4-6 people (instrumentalist) who are all great at what they do. Comparing that to what Just Blaze or Mike Will does on their lonesome really isnt fair.

but then again, dudes like Kanye and Dr Dre are known to have others chime in with their guitars, pianos or drums or whatever and also help with instruments.

So they can play drums? Most people think of drummers as the dumbest member of the band anyway. I'd like to put a stack of records and an SP in front of some rock drummer and see if be comes out with something as good as Marley or Pete Rock for example. Simple 808s aren't that great or fascinating but what someone like Mannie Fresh does with an 80& drum machine and a keyboard is just as good or better than any rock song.
