I have an att router....what benefits are there with getting a standalone?
For me, if I were buying another one, I'd look for
- Wireless AC support
- Gigabit ports (should be almost standard)
- Most importantly, DDWRT (and to a lesser extent Tomato) compatibility.
I have the ASUS RT-AC87U router and it's pretty dope. It's pretty much no maintenance.
Got mine as an open box for $150 from an Amazon warehouse deal. Still had the plastic on itI've got the same one and I've had no issues, consistent, supports multiple devices connected without issues. Expensive but so far it's been worth it.

Is Asus supposed to be best and/or Most Popular router brand?
