But you're willing to throw what you have away to be a martyr. Nobody's gonna volunteer to be that after achieving everything they wanted for them and their families unless you truly believe you're there to serve a bigger purpose than sports. Athletes who make more money than Ali ever saw just want to enjoy their life and their people around there. Remember this is the age of the Brand. You're not just looking out for yourself

You a fellow jet fan and I understand where you're coming from but you wrong. Unless I leave my family with enough money and generational wealth even when they do face all types of racism, they still be alright, but how many black people can do that ? So at end of the day my family is going to suffer like any other black person just not as bad.

That's why athletes get paid as much as they do now, so they can hang that contract over their heads so they don't step out of line.

Ali was crucified then but the difference is he had the unwavering support of the black community. If say a Lebron got up and talked like that today, the very first people to shyt on and shame him would be other black people. These days black women(and some black men) would agree with the white women that he shut down. There is no support for black athletes who want to stand up and speak truth to power because we've sold out as a community.

because we dont want no p*ssy representing black people man

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
It even seemed like white folks didn't get offended quite as easily back then like they do today. Some of those white folks were sittin' there in the audience like :lupe::jbhmm:

That's because back then white people said ****** and colored everyday without a care in the world. It was socially acceptable. That's why nobody flinched with Ali said it.

some here may not know this but Ali was calling out c00ns from left, right and every angle..
it's funny that all of these years later people are starting to shyt on Ali for his dissing of smokin' joe..regarding uncle tom and Gorilla..Ali shytted on everyone and with reason..he was about that black pride and no sell out shyt..

but did cats know that Ali turned down major film roles which became big blaxploitation hits? Ali shytted on sammy davis jnuior and sidney poiter..the much loved actors of that era ..

I read about this when I picked up his autobiography from 1975 recently, I was also pleasantly surprised about him calling out guys like Wilt Chamberlain for one-upping white women while talking down on black women. Talking about how can you disrespect your mom, sis, ect. like that, a guy can date whoever but don't diss your own in the process.

The Ali biography by Thomas hauser that came out in the 90s was a great read too
