I don't get it. Ya'll nyggas stan Big Krit(90s UGK), Spaceghost(90s ThreeSix), even fukkin Riff Raff(90s Houston hip hop) yet ya'll hate on Joey for making 90s NY hip hop?

Joey can spit, has a dope flow, isn't hiding behind his beats and is more about the bars than his image, yet ya'll still aren't satisfied lol

if he was making more contemporary sounding music, ya'll would call him a follower. if he was making something that was more left field, ya'll would call him a weirdo

I feel you, but at the same time to me being 20 it makes sense:leostare:

Alot of us young cats today even tho we couldn't fully appreciate the piffness of the 90's while it came out back tracked and were just left:wow: at the quality of music and tbh there's tons of young niccas just like me that from around 04-09-10 were almost exclusively bumpin 90's because the Hip-Hop coming out at that time simply wasn't up to par, so we have this nostalgic feeling to Snapback(who you really think brought Snaps back nicca:birdman:? young niccas) Michael Jordan (and his shoes) and 90's rap in general:steviej: I outgrew my whole "90's rap or 90's music is the best ever made i can't listen to anything else" fase but I know there's ALOT of young cats out there still feeling that, nd being that Joey BAD is 17 I can relate to why he's making music over those type of beats:cape:

On the other hand him rapping over 90's instrumentals and trying to be a "real hip hop" type of rapper is the same reason why I can't listen to him everyday:heh:

Just to put it in perspective for you breh:manny:

:dwillhuh: I went thru the exact same shyt breh

:mindblown: You hit the fukking needle with inhuman precision

Good post my nikka

Good you posted Asap rocky..one thats a lil outside the box when it comes to not only his fashion but his lifestyle.

Joey is reverting..anyone can do that..if I want 90's hip hop i'll listen to it

He's 17, yea u can build upon the foundation but to straight up jack this shtick of 90's hip hop is just lazy and not innovative at all breh :wtb:

:wtf: I fukks with ASAP but the nygga is from Harlem and has the sound of a 90s Houston rapper. so he's "thinking outside the box" but Joey isn't? shyt, at least Joey uses the sound of a region that he's actually from

it's clear what's going on here. having a throwback sound is fine unless the sound is NY lol

My Pops Forever RIP
What you are arguing about is another problem with New York itself. But it still has nothing to do with my orginal statement/arguement.

The problem with NY hip hop is that it is scared to do something different. Cats either are falling back on the safety net of dikkriding the south movement. Or are too scared to step out on there own and run back like a lil scared kitten to that "stuck in the 90s" sound. There are numerous problems with NY with right now. This thread was jus stating one of em :whoo:

What is going on in NYC that you're seeing that nobody's picked up on that would be considered "being themselves?" The fact of the matter is that whenever somebody says that a rapper from NY isn't being himself nowadays, then that person hasn't been to NYC recently. For everyone that says someone like ASAP Rocky or French Montana or even some of the older heads aren't being themselves, take a look around. Their shyt is really reflective of what's being worn, what's being played, and what's being said out here. The problem critics have is that much of it isn't unique to NYC and the shyt that is unique to NY is dated, played out, and corny even to the nikkas that live here.

You got people here bytching about how they miss how shyt used to be. Then you get a rapper that raps in the vein of how it used to be and it's "this nikka's wack. Why he soundin like that?" Just example # 59394 of how the Coli doesn't know what it wants.

I know all about hipsters, and not to act like one but it being a thing is almost completely dead. Dude fukks with old music and that's that.

If we go by pitchfork, yes they might fukk with him but they fukk with Freddie Gibbs and Killer Mike even more. He's like a normal New York kid like Asap and all these other dudes.

Pitchfork is ran by hipsters. and pitchfork isn't a respectable hip hop rating site either.

and you're quite mistaken, these kids born in the 90's are heavy into this shyt... hipsters dont die, they just move onto more unpopular shyt.

ASAP Rocky is a "normal" New Yorker? dikkriding the west and south= normal NYC kid ?

All my vicious hating aside

That nikka need to get bangaz...

His mixtape aint last but a week

Only tracks I play to this day are

Daily Routine and Suspect

And suspect just because it has this nostalgic feel for me

He's 17 and he's making :flabbynsick: music with no fresh or new elements

He's seriously straight jacking the whole thing and that sht is jus :scusthov: to me

But hey let kid do him, if he get hot with it..thats whats up

ask New York... they still haven't figured it out.

it's one thing to like/appreciate the shyt, it's a complete other to clearly be a hipster and dikkride the shyt out of the 90's

there is a whole wave of hipsters born from like 95 on who dikkride the 90's harder than people from the 80's who actually lived thru that shyt.

what this lil nikka know about Topanga having the fattest ass for a white girl back in the day?

all i'm saying, is that he's not as nice as advertised, and that he's a hipster rapper.... and that i understand why he's getting the hype he has.

:ohlawd: A nikka had the ultimate crush on that chick, used to always be amazed by how thick she was when I was a kid

Tho now when I peep the reruns I realize her cake wasnt that great :yeshrug:

So let me get this right, nikkas is hating on a dude because his debut mixtape had a throwback 90's sound. I dont care how young he is, let this lil nikka live. Ya'll acting like he gonna be on this 'schtick' for his debut album/entire career.

So now nikkas hate Joey Badass? You same mahfuggas was on his shyt hard when it first dropped, wuhwuwuh happened?

Dude is obviously a novelty act with some decent throwback production. Is the fact that he actually RAPS in the short bus era supposed to be corny now?

:merchant: nikkas hatin a black man for having a vocabulary.

BURR!!

Of course the 90's thing is a gimmick, but if the music is hot who gives a damn. :youngsabo:

Just forget about lil homee, drink you some cough syrup, snort a coupla xannies and play Love Sosa for the 666th time.

His producer is from New Jersey (Clams), he raps like he's from the east and all that. The only southern about him is the chopped up texas voice on a few songs. As far as west coast goes :pachaha:, nothing west at all about him. He fukks with the chopped up voice, the rest of the beat is mostly new york styled. I mean it's hard being from New York being that rap is a New York thing to start with. Everyone is affected by everyone, specially in these digital times.

Kendrick Lamar is 1000000000 times more east coast than Asap dikkrides west. Do the maths.

I guess we have to agree to disagree on this one. The music is not hot. Its derivative and hollow. Why listen to this over the shyt he is trying to imitate?
Hollow?

Are you serious? In a time where most rappers rap simple shyt about nothing but money, hoes and clothes he's hollow? :sadcam:.

Is Joey Badass blowing up or am I missing something? Once a rapper blows up the nikkas with hate in their blood will be the first ones to inform you about him blowing up. Ask Cole, Krit, Wiz or anyone else who has blown up lately. I've not heard cats hate on new fresh shyt like the sad fukks on this site. Go back to your cheif keefs and these other clones instead.

Are you dudes really mad at a kid trying shyt like

instead of making music like other rappers from his era
