What Nelly said in his diss was ass. It only got attention and applause because he was super popular and the shock factor. Nobody would dare think Nelly would come at KRS-One

Honestly I ignored the beef COMPLETELY because it is a ridiculous idea. KRS is a legend and Nelly is Nelly. I still have not bothered to hear anything from the beef because there is no point in hearing it.
However. I do remember Nelly saying:

''most people out there talking about whats real hiphop
them the people who album flop''

But thats only because ''Number One'' was a hit Song that was all over the place and i dont even think that was directed at KRS.

KRS dropped the ball. It's not like he dropped Bridge is Over part 2 or something. Every diss he put out against Nelly was average. You can't get on Beef DVD tombot I got a rhyme for every rapper on billboard that will destroy your career and then drop some lackluster diss records against an average at best rapper.

this is why they let it slide

1. Philly and NY are 2 separate entities.. there is no correlation to getting offended over someone dissing an NY rapper on a track with Philly rappers

2. Nobody cared about KRS One enough to get offended, young people dictate whats hot in rap for the most part and no young people cared about KRS or his legend status

3. The older NY and/or east coast personalities in the industry who may have felt a way about Nelly dissing KRS probably didnt want to air their grievances out in the public because being on the good side of the biggest artist in rap is more beneficial to being on the good side of a past his prime old school rapper who can't do anything for u

All true.

Except people DID get offended.

Nas took Nelly to task over that shyt live on Power 105 when he did his epic rant.

Krs 1 played himself

Dude got a problem with thinking every rapper should pay him respect and mentioned him every fukking time when somebody like nelly said he was influenced by big daddy kane , rakim and ice t in that source article..

I still remember this little beef..

It's similar to rakim who i used to hear around the early 2000s complaining about new rappers not paying him homage...

Typical of nikkas who couldn't find other avenues to move onto and want to complain about other nikkas like nelly ( who's trash anyway imo ) eating well at the time

It's not just about older rappers "complaining."

Before KRS fixed his mouth to say that ludicrous bullshyt about we should defend Afrika Bambatta because "Hip Hop" I gave him a lot of leeway with his outspoken grievances against the rap generation that came after not paying homage.

MC's like KRS, Rakim, G.Rap, And Kane literally gave BIRTH to these nikkas. Public Enemy and Run DMC invented styles and flows that set template for all who came after. These rappers out here winning Grammys, putting on fashion shows, acting in big budget tent pole movies, and pushing commercials all have the forefathers to thank. Rakim has no Grammys. KRS has no AMA's. G.Rap will never win a Golden Globe. But their dedication to the CRAFT should be championed by EVERY MC who is able to call themselves making a living off of the art form.

So KRS and Rakim are absolutely in the right for demanding the proper respect they DESERVE as veterans.

I'm not talking about nut hugging or forcing a collab. But just proper respect.
