And i'm a sample-based beatmaker myself.
I know it's thievery but if i was a 70's musician i would actually feel honored if somebody wanted to sample my music. I sample music to pay homage to the 70's legends and beyond. Not all of us sample-based beatmakers do that i think. Some just do it cause sample-beats are easier to make.

So. Cal
He thought Nelly was a wack, sellout pop rapper. He did it for the culture.

So why did he single out nelly? Theres been tons of wack sellout pop rappers before and after him. Maybe he was having a midlife crisis at that time? I dunno. But the whole beef was wack and krs,at the end, came out looking like a hater and this is coming from an old head who hates that pop mainstream shyt

Some pop music in the early 2000s was supergood including Nelly. I really don't understand what happened to music in the last 10 years. Music lost it's soul. I personally wish that guy named Lil Jon never jumped on the music scene. I feel like everybody started thinking the 808 was the dopest drum after him. Now a lot of shyt on the radio is just plain copy cat 808 bullshyt.
And the 808 is not even a bad drum but now it seems like all you hear is 808s. I hate that shyt. It ruined music for me. Music is just supercorny nowadays.

I shouldn't blame Lil Jon for that though cause Lil Jon made some really dope beats with the 808. But a lot of music all sounds the same nowadays and it sounds like something 12 year olds listen to.

Nelly is a pop rapper but he had some really good songs.
KRS just wants Hip-Hop to stay pure though which i can understand cause that's where he comes from but i never really found Hip-Hop a pure music genre cause it always took samples from other genres.
I like some Nelly songs as well. But he's not someone who made a body of work I care about, nor is he someone who is going to go down as one of the best rappers. :yeshrug:

No, 100% agreed. I tried to listen to some of his albums after Country Grammar and they where straight up trash. But i still respect Nelly for the music he made on Country Grammar.

I respect Nelly for his singles. I don't think I ever sat down and listened to an entire Nelly album. I heard County Grammar though b/c people around me had that one playing.

Yeah - it was a huge miscalculation on KRS part. I said as much earlier in the thread. He thought it was 92. He thought artistic integrity still mattered.

yeah me to. But Country Grammar really has fire on it. I don't listen to a lot of Nelly neither but i always love it when my brother puts on Nelly when we are in the car. Good memories.

Krs One had a song called Im Still #1

And Krs is known for always talking about what's real HipHop or not.

Nelly came out with a song called #1

In that song Nelly said "I'm tired of people judging what's real HipHop. Half the time you be them n!ggaz who album flops"

Krs thought Nelly was low key dissing him
