I guess I’ll play devils advocate. I think this law is for people who are 26 and have sex with 16 year olds. Very much wrong, but not a pedophile.

I would imagine a person who has sex with a 10 year old would still be found guilty and registered as a pedophile.

"14-17 year olds with a partner within 10 years of their age" this isnt about 15 year olds having sex with a 17 year old

It pertains to consensual sex between an adult and a minor, and it's up to the judge to consider the facts of the case and decide rather or not to put the predator on the list.

I'm assuming an example of where this law would be applied would be if the parents consented to the relationship and requested that the judge forgo the sex offender list.

This law isnt making it legal to have sex with children, it's an adjustment to the previous law that allowed someone to avoid the sex offender registry under special circumstances.
