You still didnt answer the question.

Those are the reasons why he is a good rapper but not a reason why he is as popular and successful as he is now.
Yeah. But what I'm saying is the reason why he is successful now is because of the reason u pointed out....Because he's a good rapper.

now u have the nelly's, drakes, lil wayne's of the world and they all the same trash

If that was the reason then many other rappers would be as successful as jay.

He is as successful as he is now because he made moves within the Music industry itself and stayed in recent trends not much others rappers did as much as he did which is why I asked you and others to name one rapper who out in as much work as jay did industry/popularity wise and didnt get a s far as him.

I see what you're saying now.

from what i remember Jay started to get mentioned in these convos around the blueprint era. Reasonable Doubt is probably his best album but the impact BP had on the game is what made people start talking about him as GOAT contender.

it's a lot of things though. in a way it was a perfect storm. He filled a void in that era. Biggie and Pac were dead, Nas was losing credibility amongst the "heads", Canibus (who was considered the lyrical Messiah) had failed, people were still hating on the south...and meanwhile Jay was getting radio hits and had skills at the same time. Only other people at that time with mainstream success respected by the "hip hop heads" were eminem (but he's white) and DMX (but his style was more emotions). BP's production and the fact he went at Nas and considered a winner for a few weeks and no one else in the mainstream could claim his lane made him KONY for a moment. After that, he just managed to create a certain mystique about himself (black album, rare interviews and TV appearences, displays of wealth in rare appearences, getting with one of the hottest chicks in the game and keeping it so private, associations with successful artists, etc. He definitely seized the opportunity after that perfect storm. AND he was still putting out some good albums (not feeling all of his albums but i liked AG though...)

No, Jay started getting mentioned immediately.

After BIG got kilt, by the nikka in my avy, the hip hop mags started coming up with "who's next to be on top" type articles... from the West they were nominating nikkaz like Snoop & Cube... from the East it was Jigga, naS, and some other nikkaz I dont remember. Now I will be the 1st to tell you I didnt think Jay was gonna be THAT nikka at the time, but by the time Vol 3 dropped Jay was that nikka. You dont remember the anticipation for Vol 3? Then Is That Yo bytch dropped and nikkaz was on fire...

Vol 3 was when Jay became the man you see today.

:what:

What he was trying to say with that line is why dont they find another rapper and make him as successful as Jay seeing as they apparently made him into a success.

Again :what:

That "Make another Hov" line is lame. Tell Jay-Z to create Rocafella Records again :stopitslime: Have a legendary label in its prime, dominating the industry. Not that Roc Nation bullshyt. Have two legendary crews like Dip Set and State Prop signed to your label. Have a gold selling artist like Beanie Sigel thats respected throughout the industry. Have a platinum selling artist like Cam. Have a superstar rapper in the wings like Kanye West. Tell Jay-Z to go do that :stopitslime:

Is not the foundation of his success?

I asked you already who else made as much big business moves as him?

You said that if it took business moves there would be more rappers with his type of success then name a rapper who made big business moves as him who isn't as popular as he is?
Dude, you cant make those moves until you have a product! You act like his popularity comes from some other place other than his music which is ridiculous! He's able to make those moves because of the product he has put out. He is in high demand because of the product he has put out. If a 17 year and counting rap career was due mostly to "good business moves", why haven't other rappers followed suit? Or are you saying Jay is the ONLY one who knows the business?

"Jigga held you down 6 summers"

This is before the Internet blew up. Before an artist dropped 100 mix tapes

When biggie was dropping his second album, 4 years later. Wu tang dropped their second, 4 years later. PAC dropped every 2. And so on.......

Jay was dropping an album every year. He wouldn't go away. He beat his name into your head. Actually was gonna name his second album "heir to the throne" while telling you why he was the best and also king of ny the whole time

Still it wasn't until Annie and hard knock life that he crossed over. Sold 5 million when nobody clearly took the crown yet, went on the first national tour that was hardcore hip hop since biggie died, and still dropped every year after till the black album

You never got a break from him. And it's not like he sucks or something. He was consistent where new rappers might never drop 3 albums. Let alone 6 straight in 6 years
i don't get how him dropping 6 albums in 6 years helps his case..if anything that usually hurts an artist and oversatures em..

its that he was able to change his sound every album. those that weren't able to do this grew stale(50 cent, dmx nelly etc). Hov's the madonna of rap.

and he's the GOAT..not opinion. facts only :jawalrus:
