In your opinion, why is Jay Z so popular and successful?

Dude, you cant make those moves until you have a product! You act like his popularity comes from some other place other than his music which is ridiculous! He's able to make those moves because of the product he has put out. He is in high demand because of the product he has put out. If a 17 year and counting rap career was due mostly to "good business moves", why haven't other rappers followed suit? Or are you saying Jay is the ONLY one who knows the business?
He is in high demand because he is popular. He can put out descent albums but if it wasn't for his business moves, him riding off of biggie and his catering his music to the popular crowd he wouldn't be as popular as he is now.

Out of all the people who knew the business side of it and used it for their rap careers he got the farthest.

Nas fcked with alot of the bigger new stars even moreso than Hov at the 2004-2008 time period...and i could say the same now...

Hov only had 3 features on his latest release..
1 with his long time friend Justin Timberlake
1 with Nas..another long time friend
and Rick Ross who's group has business ties with Roc Nation

The hottest rappers out rii now are Drake and Kdot..neither of em showed up on the album

Again like i said what are these trends he hopped on and please specify them, that he hopped on that separates him from other artists who collab with newer hotter artists(ie: Nas)

So you gonna act like jay dont be rappin bout cars, money hoes, so you gonna act like jay didn't use biggies name to blow up, so you gonna act like jay didn't make moves with dame dash as well to get label play. So you gonna act like jay didn't hook up with beyonce who got him even more in the public eye.

Even now he did that deal with Samsung to get more numbers.

I know you jays biggest fan but come on.

Nas isn't mainstream friendly so don't even come at me with that crap. Even the topics nas raps about isn't mainstream friendly and don't even get me started on the beats.

Wdf wat u said has nothing to do with my post

U said Jay hops on trends to stay relevant so I said that Nas collabed with newer/hotter artists at the moment in the 2004-08 time period alot more than Jay and the same can be said now but to a lesser extent..

Jay been rappin bout money cars and hoes from day 1..how is that hoppin on a trend :what:

Jay was biggie's mans and plus New York chose Jay as the new star of NY....even tho Nas had more of a resume at the time to take that crown..he just wasnt the type of MC NY wanted..dnt blame Hov for dat

But back to the original discussion

What are these trends Jay hops on that separates him from other artists such as Nas who have done way more collaborations with newer/hotter artists of the momenet than Hov has as of late?

Jay has always got to leech off the biggie and pac era.
He was not a factor in hip hop when they was alive.
But somehow people want to add him and act like he had status back then.
Hell jayz did not even really have status 98 & 99.
And even then he was not really number one people was on ruff ryders and cash money.
people have rewritten jayz past.

Meek mill
Rick ross
Chris brown
Lil wayne
Tyga
Wale
Nicki Minaj
Young jeezy
e.t.c.... are all mainstream artists Nas has worked with over the past 3-4 years alone, he's done more of these features than Jay if anything.

Man, stop trying to paint Nas as something he isn't. This is the problem a lot of people have with Nas die hards, let the dude live, you have this image of him in your head as this hip hop holier than thou that doesn't wan't anything to do with those dirty evil mainstreamers, he's anything but that though. It's cringeworthy sometimes.

Well then he hopped on trends from day one then. Plus him using biggies name and biting his lines was him hopping on a trend.

Looks at Nas albums, topics, features and such. The dude hasn't been mainstream friendly for ages. :ahh:

The closest thing he got to mainstream was nastaudamus and thats was about it.
