Honestly this is a very complicated issue. I don't blame them for not wanting to work but are you finding another way to supplement the income? Are you relying on your parents, what happens if they pass away? What happens when you reach retirement age? If social security is still solvent you won't be able to draw from it
To be fair social security may not be around when they get that age.

I'm a millennial that does deal with Gen Z and yes they are entitled and like to challenge authority at my job. What they don't seem to understand is they can make direct changes if they work for a mom and pops business as they can directly talk to the owners but not in a layered corporation. This is something they don't seem to understand. They feel they are smarter then the people above them that created a structure that resulted in a multi billion dollar company. They don't think they have to start from the bottom up and grow with the company until they have the ability to be in the position to make changes. They want fast track access to make big time decisions. They are also difficult to deal with because they are more sensitive and cannot take basic criticism which results them reporting corporate concerns on their coworkers and management. Conflict resolution doesn't exist. They also expose these conflicts on social media which causes work place conflicts because they publish everything online.

With that said they are extremely creative and hope they get a reality check early on to tap into their true potential. They are not dumb but just don't care to listen to folks that are experienced in life. They go 0 to 100 emotionally and if they can slow it down and actually listen this can be a special generation that can accomplish a lot of things.

They Say gen z lacks basic tech skills using an actual computer :russ: .

They are the instant gratification generation - Gen Z has figured out how to monetize everything they do and make careers out of being talentless

But they don't really go in for too much bullshyt either. These articles and the world is full of too much oldhead babble. They can't stand being challenged or corrected, especially when they're wrong

Interesting. You are sounding like what old people said about millennials. Don't drink the kool aid cause you have gotten older.

Every time a thread like this is made its always "why don't x want to work" in a 2023 economy. If people as a whole had good paying jobs, healthcare, benefits people will be glad to come in and work. I wouldn't be eager to work when you can't even afford a roof over your head because of your pay ain't keeping up with inflation.

The real problem is people are not being given the right incentive.

Of course people aren't going to be motivated to work when the job pays them peanuts and provides no security. They're no longer buying into the con.
There is no such thing as being payed peanuts. You are paid on what value the market believes you are worth based on demand. 4000 years ago, a muscular man would have been paid a tidy sum to move a rock boulder. Not so much today. In Europe, job security can be pushed by political decisions and society choices. A person working at subway has job security in France, but not in USA or Canada. But remember that the same rigidity and job protection in Europe also is inflexible, that is why Europe had a higher unemployment rate than USA for years, doesn’t produce fresh billion dollars companies creating thousands of jobs and it it has the same billionaires on top for the past 30 years.

how did they still end up on millennials? and yes, gen z does seem to challenge more stuff and have more "issues" that keep them from really working, me and my friends all manage gen z workers. but while some find it annoying, i'm not mad at it, fukk raising your blood pressure and stress level for a job. they get the effort you feel like giving, if they don't like it, they'll let you know and it's on to the next one.

the one surprising thing i've seen multiple times tho, is gen z that they lack technological skills...make sense, playing on an app isn't tech skills
The amount of gen Z people that have practically no technical skills is crazy considering they SHOULD be more naturally gifted. And they have the nerve to think they actually are better and know more computer and software skills while being surprisingly bad it is dumbfounding.

I think it’s like you said. We grew up with learning “programs” that got streamlined into just using “apps”. And that’s all they know, how to “use” stuff. That’s not technical knowledge. It’s crazy.

I staff a couple zoomers and I haven’t gotten the “challenge” thing people say they do. Wouldn’t bother me cause the answer to any challenge is “Because it’s what I pay you to do”. Do it or don’t, the choice is yours. You ain’t gotta do it and I ain’t gotta pay you. So what you wanna do?
